Fan Appreciation Night Hits the Miller Park Parking Lots

As part of tonight’s Fan Appreciation Night presented by Chevrolet, Brewers players were escorted on golf carts throughout the parking lots to surprise fans with gifts as a way of thanking everyone for their season-long support. After batting practice, the players hopped on the carts and went for the ride.

Every Brewers player and coach handed out Brewers goodies to fans in the parking lots to show appreciation for their support. Many posed for selfies and shook hands with the fans:

Will Smith, Jimmy Nelson and Matt Clark decided to start a game of bags with some fans and they even enjoyed some cookies from the group.

The gesture caught most fans by surprise as they really didn’t really expect to see Brewers players cruising through the lots on golf carts.  It was a fun treat to see the reaction of the fans when they saw the players. There were a lot of double takes! It was also fun to see the reaction of the players, some of whom had never seen the extravagant tailgating that goes on before every Brewers game.

Now This is a Story All About How…Will Smith Ended Up with a Fresh Prince of Bel Air Jersey

I’ve said it before. When your name is Will Smith, you have to have a good sense of humor….to put up with people like me who think they are so funny and original:

Will Smith Belair

But earlier this season, when I stumbled across this promotion that the State College Spikes were hosting, even Will himself couldn’t help but get excited:

Fresh Prince NIght

Yes, to commemorate “Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” the timeless ’90s sitcom that really put the “other” Will Smith on the map, on June 29, the Spikes, a Class-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, located in Pennsylvania, wore funky, graffiti-inspired jerseys and hosted Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton, Will’s cousin on the show.

I reached out to Ben Love, producer of in-game entertainment for the Spikes and explained our special situation. A month later, this happened:

Will Smith Brewers Jersey (4)

Will, chillin’ out maxin’ relaxin’ all cool.

A special thanks to Ben and the SC Spikes for sending us a special #13 jersey for Will. It was very kind of you (especially since you are an affiliate of one of our biggest rivals!) and it made his day.

You may also recall that back in June, the entire bullpen was “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” in NYC at the MLB Fan Cave:

Brewers Bullpen Gets Jiggy Wit It at the MLB Fan Cave; Produces Rap Video Featuring Will Smith, Inspired by Will Smith

Earlier this month when the Crew visited NYC to take on the Mets, many members of the Brewers bullpen paid a visit to the MLB Fan Cave where they filmed a special video.

We teased it for you a bit on social media at the time….

…but now we’re excited to share the special video–starring Will Smith, Zach Duke, Mike Fiers, Wei-Chung Wang, and Rob Wooten– with you here:

When your name is Will Smith, you have to have a good sense of humor. And, since the Brewers bullpen seems to be the most music video-friendly group in Major League Baseball right now, the Crew took this opportunity to  channel the 1990s rap scene with a montage/parody of some songs inspired by the “other” Will Smith:

“Here Come The Men in Blue”

“The Wild Midwest”

“The Fresh Prince of Brew City”

“Welcome to Milwaukee”

It was a great day hanging out at the Cave and in addition to the video, I also got a lot of fantastic behind-the-scenes photos to share with you here. Enjoy!

A huge thank you to the folks at MLB Fan Cave for putting this together; it turned out fantastic! Also, thank you to the guys for taking the time to do this; I know I had fun and I think they may have had a little, too. ;)

Wei-Chung Wang Wednesday Reaches UK

Good morning and happy “Wei-Chung Wang Wednesday” (#WCWW)!

While there isn’t a new #WCWW video from the Brewers bullpen today (yet/that we know of), we do have a special video to share with you here.

As you’re likely aware by now, the Wei-Chung Wang Wednesday trend was started back in April, featuring Brewers reliever Wei-Chung Wang (pronounced “WAY-chung-WONG”),  and his fellow bullpen teammates dancing to the song “Everybody Wang Chung Tonight” by the Wang Chung Band out of the UK.

Past videos have featured the bullpen at Miller Park, with the mascots, in St. Louis, at the “zoo” and even a guest appearance by the UW-Badgers Men’s Basketball Team.

And this phenomenon has gone global. Not only popular “Across the Nation,” and in Taiwan, now the craze has caught on in the UK…with none other than the Wang Chung Band itself!

Wang Chung Band first caught wind of WCWW back in April and have tweeted in support:

But now check out Nick Feldman of the Wang Chung Band and his son, Max, performing a tribute to Wei-Chung Wang:

Enjoy!

Wei-Chung Wang Wednesday is Back! #WCWW

Good morning and happy “Wei-Chung Wang Wednesday” (#WCWW)!

After a brief hiatus, the Brewers bullpen is back with a new Wei-Chung Wang Wednesday video.

This one involves…a trip to the zoo? Well, a cage anyway. They must have been inspired by Sunday’s Koos for Kids event.

The WCWW trend started back in Ape-ril.

These guys are simply bananas.

They love to have fun off the field, but once they’re on the field, they stop monkeying around and it’s all business.

Okay, I’ll stop now.

Enjoy!

In case you missed it (and we really don’t know how you could have), for the last two weeks, the Brewers Bullpen has put out short music videos in honor of what they’ve dubbed “Wei-Chung Wang Wednesdays” or #WCWW.

Well, it’s Wednesday again and the bullpen is back…this time with a video called “Caught Looking by K-Rod”:

Happy Birthday, Wei-Chung Wang!

Before this past Wednesday, you knew Wei-Chung Wang (pronounced “WAY-chung-WONG”),  as the Taiwanese Brewers pitcher who was acquired this past offseason in the Rule 5 Draft from Pittsburgh.

Post what has now been dubbed Wei-Chung Wang Wednesday,” (or for those of you on Twitter and Instagram, #WCWW), Wei-Chung is now a viral video star and somewhat of a Milwaukee legend.

It all started with some tweets from the Brewers bullpen and quickly escalated when Bullpen Catcher Marcus Hanel posted this video to Instagram:

Here, Wei-Chung Wang is featured as the lead dancer, with fellow relievers Tyler Thornburg, Will Smith, Jim Henderson and others serving as back-up dancers to the song “Everybody Wang Chung Tonight” by the Wang Chung Band out of the UK.

Since then, the video has been picked up by many news outlets and viewed hundreds of thousands of times, including by the Wang Chung Band: Wang Chung BandWell, today happens to be Wei-Chung’s birthday and, with  #WCWW so fresh in our minds (and “Everybody Wang Chung Tonight” still stuck in our heads), we decided to surprise him with a very special birthday greeting on the scoreboard. Wei Chung Wang

Check out his priceless reaction, here:

You can bet that Wei-Chung and his teammates certainly are having fun tonight, enjoying a 5-2 win over the Chicago Cubs.

As for me? Here are four words I never thought I’d say: Is it Wednesday yet? https://twitter.com/TylerThornburg/status/459106288060747776

Now Trending: #WCWW Wei-Chung Wang Wednesday!

Hey guys, guess what day it is! Guess. What. Day. It. Is.

You may think of today as “Wednesday,” or thanks to that talking camel, “Hump Day,” but to the Brewers bullpen, it’s so much more than that…. Move over, Dromedary. It’s Wei-Chung Wang Wednesday, or for those of you on Twitter and Instagram, #WCWW for short.

Wei-Chung Wang (pronounced “WAY-chung-WONG”),  who was acquired this past offseason in the Rule 5 Draft from Pittsburgh, is from Taiwan. The Brewers reliever, who will turn 22 on Friday, made his Major League debut on April 14 vs. the St. Louis Cardinals, becoming the 11th Taiwanese player (8th pitcher, 1st Brewer) to play in the majors, and the youngest player from Taiwan to play in the Major Leagues.

The #WCWW trend appears to have been started by Brewers Bullpen Catcher Marcus Hanel last Wednesday, April 16:

But I have a feeling today’s post is really going to put it on the map:

In this video by Marcus Hanel, Wei-Chung Wang is featured as the lead dancer, with fellow relievers Tyler Thornburg, Will Smith, Jim Henderson and others serving as back-up dancers to the song “Everybody Wang Chung Tonight” by the Wang Chung Band out of the UK.

Looks like Wednesdays just got a whole lot more fun for Brewer Nation.
