Miller Park Earns Travel Green Wisconsin Certification

Tourism Deputy Secretary Dave Fantle visited Miller Park today and presented the Club with the Travel Green Wisconsin certification.  In addition, we announced the Department of Tourism’s partnership with Brewers Radio Network, sponsoring the post-game show.

“Miller Park has received a lot of well-deserved recognition for creating a great fan environment,” said Fantle. “Now it’s receiving more recognition for its commitment to sustainable energy practices. The Brewers are a great example why Wisconsin is a major league state for visitors.”

Miller Park joins more than 350 Travel Green Wisconsin certified events, attractions, and destinations around the state committed to green initiatives. Sustainable practices include an annual Green Week that showcases many of Miller Park’s green initiatives and emphasizes the role of green-themed game promotions and community events in promoting environmental sustainability. The “Root, Root, Root for the Brewers” Plant-A-Tree program offsets the number of trees used to print the Club’s 2012 regular season tickets by purchasing one tree for every 20,000 tickets sold.   In 2012, over 9,000 pounds of used kitchen oil was recycled into Bio-Diesel and small changes such as not automatically putting lids on cups and straws in drinks for customers at concession stands saves 20 percent of those materials from ending up in a landfill. Miller Park is also LEED certified, the first retractable roof ballpark to earn that distinction.

In other news, starting in April, TravelWisconsin.com will be the presenting sponsor of the Brewers Radio Network post-game show following every regular season game. Totaling 162 games, the post game show broadcasts statewide and will be branded the “TravelWisconsin.com Post Game Show.”

“The sponsorship offers co-branding value with the Brewers and provides TravelWisconsin.com with a longer statewide presence through the peak summer and fall travel season,” said Fantle.

The mission of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism is to market the state as the Midwest’s premier travel destination for fun. By executing industry-leading marketing programs, providing reliable travel information and establishing strategic partnerships, we will play a significant role in delivering exceptional customer service and generating greater economic impact and jobs for Wisconsin.
