We’re Number One (Again)… Because of YOU!

We just received some terrific news–John and Cait… Plus 9  was the top MLB Pro Blog for the second month in a row!

April was a great month for us and and we carried that into a strong May here on the blog. This is a great honor as we are always competing with a number of awesome blogs across the MLBlogs platform. Great new photo blogs like the SF Giants Photos Blog and Dodgers Photo Blog are tough to beat.  Other front office insider blogs like Jamie Ramsey’s Better Off Red and the Mariners From the Corner of Edgar and Dave  continue to provide us with inspiration for JCP9.

But really, it’s all thanks to you–our readers!

It was a busy May for us and we hope to continue to be the place for an inside look at the Brewers. We would not be number one without our readers, so to celebrate, we thought we’d do another fun giveaway with trivia related to the blog.

The first person to answer the following questions in the comment field below will win a prize package consisting of:

JCP9 Prize May

Ready? Here’s what you need to answer–three questions designed for you to go back through our archives!

  • From the group of players that John saw in the 2011 Arizona Fall League, how many are currently with the Big League Brewers now?
  • Which former Brewers player was Cait paired with at the Davey Nelson Celebrity Golf Tournament in 2012?
  • We’ve hosted Social Media Night the last two years and a each time, a different Brewers player has made a guest appearance. Name the players.

Good luck!

UPDATE at 2:40pm CT: Congrats to Travis B. You’re the winner! Wow, that was quick!

Thanks again for reading everyone, it has truly been a pleasure to be able to engage with all of you; it was especially fun for us to meet those of you who came out to Social Media Night in person as well!

We are very fortunate to each have an inside look at the team and want to give you as much of a look inside the organization as we can. Please continue to let us know your comments, criticisms and ideas as we continue to provide our own behind-the-scenes look at Brewers baseball.  We love your feedback and will use it to hopefully stay number one in the rankings!

Cheers!

“Social Media in the Media” Night (#BrewersSMIM) Recap

Last night, prior to the Brewers vs. Twins game, we hosted John and Cait present…”Social Media in the Media” Night (#BrewersSMIM) at Miller Park!

Attendees for this sold out event had the opportunity to take part in a special pregame panel/roundtable discussion in the Brewers media interview room featuring representatives from the local media including:

  • Jon Byman ( @JonByman) News Director for 620 WTMJ Radio
  • Tom Haudricourt @Haudricourt ) Brewers beat writer for The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (via phone)
  • Sophia Minnaert ( @SophiaMinnaert ) Milwaukee Brewers & Bucks Sideline Reporter for FSWisconsin
  • Vince Vitrano ( @VinceVitrano ) WTMJ “Live at Daybreak” anchor

In addition, Brewers pitcher John Axford ( @JohnAxford), the first Brewers player to become active on social media, also made an appearance at the event.

The panel discussion included talk about how the media uses social media as a tool to report and to interact with the people that consume traditional media. In addition, here’s a random assortment of things we learned as per the Twitterverse:

1) Tom Haudricourt is, indeed, NOT Lindsay Lohan:

2) According to Sophia Minnaert, the average baseball fan watches 16 minutes of a game on TV

3) How social media is driving readership/viewership/listenership:

4) How media balance the importance of being first vs. being right:

5) Axford likes showing fans his personal side and started #SystemofaDownSaturday:

If you’re interested in checking out more of the conversation from last night’s event, check out Cait’s Storify Story here.

Following the panel, the group moved to the  ATI Club for the game where they enjoyed a buffet and beverages (the brisket was delicious!). The game turned into a 14-inning affair which ended just shortly before midnight, so the attendees got to see two Sausage Races and take part in two 7th Inning Stretches. And, although ultimately, the Crew fell to the Twins 6-5, everyone we talked to had a great time and enjoyed the event and camaraderie.

Here is a slideshow from the night, made up of our photos and yours!

Do you have additional feedback for us? Ideas for next year? Share them in the comments below, send us a tweet, or shoot us an email. We enjoyed talking with you last night in person and we love hearing from you as much as possible.

It was great to meet some of our readers in person and to put faces with your Twitter handles.  It is these kind of events that really put the “social” in social media.

Thanks again for coming out! Keep watching John and Cait for information on other upcoming events!

Social Media in Sports Night (#BrewersSMIS) Recap

Last night over 70 Brewers fans and social media aficionados joined us at Miller Park for our first Social Media in Sports Night.

John (@jstein1981) and Cait (@CMoyer) led a panel discussion in the Media Interview Room where a number of personalities with their feet in social media in the Wisconsin sports scene talked about how social media has changed the was they do business.

Brewers play-by-play radio voice Joe Block (@Joe_Block) kicked off the discussion with talking about how he integrates social media in his job. Block also expressed the important role Twitter played in helping him get to know Brewers fans.

Brewers pitcher Chris Narveson (@sleep_trick), who is recovering from surgery and is out for the year, also joined the discussion. He talked about how he was going to use Twitter to help him stay connected to fans during his rehab.

The main members of the panel included Jon Greenberg (@JonAdmirals) from the Milwaukee Admirals, Nick Monroe (@NMonroe) from the Milwaukee Bucks, Tina Wagner (@Tina_J_Wagner) from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Garrison Cummings (@gwcummings) from the Green Bay Packers.

The group discussed what promotions have worked the best in the past, how they use social media to promote their brands, which social networks their organizations use, and who their favorite brands or people are that they follow on Twitter.

Following the discussion, the group watched the game from the ATI Club in right field.  Although the outcome of the game wasn’t great, the night was still a success.
