Your 2014 Brewers Walk-Up & Entrance Music

If you were at any of the Exhibition Games this weekend, along with taking in the new changes around the ballpark, you might have found yourself taking in some new music as well, especially as our players walked up to the plate, or our pitchers entered the games.

For players, this is often an important decision. What brief part of a song is going to send a message to the fans—and what do I want that message to be? Do I keep the same song that I had last year? What’s the hit that is going to produce the most hits? Is it a superstitious thing, do I want fans to sing along, or do I just use my favorite song right now?

And, it’s a big deal because sometimes, fans might not remember your exact career batting average or ERA with the team, but they just might remember your at-bat song.

Take these blasts from the past, for instance, which were very distinctive and will probably always stick out–in my mind, at least–as being associated with a certain player at a certain time: Tyler Houston using Baha Men’s “Who Let the Dogs Out” (2001);  Frank Catalanotto and Mark Kotsay using The Outfield’s “Your Love” (2009; 2011—”Josie’s on a vacation far away….”); or Brooks Kieschnick entering the game to George Strait’s “Cowboys Like Us” (2004).

So, if you’re like me and you’re attuned to the tunes, you’ll probably enjoy seeing this list—and updating your iPod playlists accordingly.

DID YOU KNOW? Make sure you download the free MLB At The Ballpark App! In addition to check-in offers, ballpark maps, game updates and more, one of the really cool features is “Ballpark Music.” Like a song you hear? Check it out on At The Ballpark–and you can even download it right there! No Shazam necessary!

2013 GIBBYs Nominees Announced; Time to VOTE BREWERS!

The nominees for the 2013 Greatness in Baseball Yearly Awards (GIBBYs) have been announced. Players from both Leagues are featured as nominees in 22 categories recognizing the best in baseball from the regular season through the Postseason; we’ve got nominees in four of these categories, so here’s where you come in!

Voters for the GIBBY Awards fall into five groups, each of which determines 20% of the overall Vote:

1. Fans at MLB.com <—–That’s YOU!

2. Media

3. Front-Office Personnel

4. MLB Alumni

5. The Society for American Baseball Research (SABR)

Millions of fan votes have been cast over the past five years, and this year’s winners will be recognized during an MLB.com extravaganza during  the Baseball Winter Meetings.

Voting ends December 1, 2013. So, over the next couple of weeks, make sure you VOTE BREWERS in the following categories!

  • VOTE Gomez for Defensive Player  .988 FLD PCT, 391 putouts, 12 assists. Gomez displayed a great glove in center field all season, pacing big league outfielders (min: 110 games started) with a 2.78 Range Factor while ranking among the leaders in assists.
  • VOTE Segura for Hitting Performance  6-for-7, 2 R, RBI, May 28 vs. MIN. Jean Segura went 5-for-5 in regulation against the Twins — including a tying RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning — before tacking on another base knock in the 14th to match a franchise mark that had not been touched in 20 years.
  • VOTE Schafer for Walk-Off  Sept. 17 vs. CHC. In one of the most unique ways to earn a walk-off win, Logan Schafer stepped up to the plate as a pinch-hitter and laid down a game-ending suicide squeeze that sent the Brewers onto the field in celebratory fashion
  • VOTE Betancourt for Cut 4 Topic Little is nondescript about Brandon Phillips who, after a sacrifice bunt, initially opted to walk away from first base in lieu of being retired by Yuniesky Betancourt. But when neither man moved, Phillips turned around and jogged back to Betancourt, slapping his glove hand for a hilarious “high-five” putout.

Thanks for your support and GO BREWERS!

Fan Appreciation Night Hits the Miller Park Parking Lots

As part of last night’s Fan Appreciation Night presented by Chevrolet, Brewers players were escorted on golf carts through the parking lots to surprise fans with gifts as a way of thanking everyone for their season-long support. After batting practice, the players hopped on the carts and went for the ride.

All the players, that is, except for Norichika Aoki, who decided he wanted to drive. He hopped in the driver’s seat of one of the carts and took off!

Every Brewers player and coach handed out bobbleheads, t-shirts and other Brewers goodies to fans in the parking lot to show appreciation for their support.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Jean Segura even got in the act by flipping a burger on the grill at a tailgate and Tom Gorzelanny snuck a cookie from a group (both the burgers and the cookies looked and smelled great!).

The gesture caught most fans by surprise as they really didn’t really expect to see Brewers players cruising through the lots on golf carts.  It was a fun treat to see the reaction of the fans when the saw the players. There were a lot of double takes! It was also fun to see the reaction of the players, some of whom had never seen the extravagant tailgating that goes on before every Brewers game.

Were you in the parking lot yesterday?  Share your story with us in the comments section below!

Fans Can Vote for All-Star Game MVP Tonight

Right now, the 84th All-Star Game is being televised nationally on FOX and while you’re watching Carlos Gomez and Jean Segura represent Milwaukee, you can have a say in voting for the MVP.

Here’s how:

Log onto MLB.com now through the end of the Midsummer Classic to vote for the Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet via the 2013 All-Star Game MVP Vote sponsored by T-Mobile. Fans can also vote on Twitter using the appropriate hashtag (Brewers fans, use #SeguraMVP and #GomezMVP). The winner of the award will be announced at the end of the game, and fans’ ballots will represent 20 percent of the official vote determining the winner.

Immediately following the conclusion of the All-Star Game, the winner will receive the Arch Ward Trophy, which was first presented in 1962 as a tribute to the man who founded the All-Star Game in 1933. That first presentation went to Leon Wagner of the Los Angeles Angels and to Maury Wills of the Los Angeles Dodgers, because two All-Star Games per year were played in those days.

These are the players who have won the award since fan voting was introduced in 2003:

2003: Garret Anderson, Angels

2004: Alfonso Soriano, Rangers

2005: Miguel Tejada, Orioles

2006: Michael Young, Rangers

2007: Ichiro Suzuki, Mariners

2008: J.D. Drew, Red Sox

2009: Carl Crawford, Rays

2010: Brian McCann, Braves

2011: Prince Fielder, Brewers

2012: Melky Cabrera, Giants
