Mother’s Day Wishes & Plenty of Pink from the Crew!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms out there!

Before I tell you everything that is going on to commemorate this special holiday at the park today, I want to wish my own mom, who is celebrating at the game today, a very Happy Mother’s Day. I love you mom, I wouldn’t be where I am today without your love and support!

A few of the players have special Mother’s Day wishes, too:

And, today at Miller Park, we’re celebrating with plenty of pink, as part of the “Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer” program, which was started by Commissioner Selig and Major League Baseball in 2006.

Some of the players will use pink bats made by Louisville Slugger, the Official Bat of Major League Baseball, stamped with the MLB breast cancer awareness logo. Game-used Louisville Slugger pink bats from Mother’s Day games that have been authenticated by MLB will be auctioned exclusively on MLB.com to benefit the fight against breast cancer.

Today, we’re also using a pink-stitched Rawlings baseballs. the pink ribbon is appearing on the bases at each ballpark, the official dugout lineup cards are pink and the players are wearing pink wristbands, plus a variety of other pink accessories.

Pink ribbon decals for breast cancer awareness are being worn by all on-field personnel.

The “Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer” program was expanded with the Honorary Bat Girl program in 2009.

The Honorary Bat Girl program celebrates those who have been affected by breast cancer and who have gone above and beyond to demonstrate a commitment to fight this disease.

A Guest Judging Panel that included MLB players Evan Longoria, Freddie Freeman and Pablo Sandoval with MLB Network’s Sam Ryan and country music superstar Jason Aldean, who are all committed to the cause, helped to select an Honorary Bat Girl for each of the 30 MLB Clubs.

Today we hosted a special Mother’s Day program including recognition of our 2014 Honorary Bat Girl Winner, Lisa Zelazoski, who was here with her husband Nate and daughters Abby, Erin and Ava (not pictured).
