We’re just four days away from Opening Day and it seems like Brewers Fever is sweeping over the state!
Check out this very creative Pepsi display at the Pick ‘n Save on 76th and Coldspring! Looks like Bernie Brewer and the Klement’s Famous Racing Sausages are ready for Opening Day and are hydrated with Pepsi products!
If you’re out and about, make sure you keep your eyes open for these types of “pop” art displays from the merchandisers! Here are a few we captured last summer as well! We love it!

Here are a few highlights:
Thanks to John and Cait, you already know that we’ve got 10 All-Fan Bobblehead Giveaways topping the excitement at Miller Park:
In addition to those sure to be very popular items, there are several special events for which fans will want to mark their calendars and secure tickets in advance.
Our 5-County, 5-Day Celebration will take place from April 29–May 3. During this time, all residents of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Washington and Waukesha counties can purchase tickets at a 50% savings on all reserved seats (excluding the Miller Lite Beerpen, All-Inclusive Areas and the $1 Uecker Seats).
More great bargains are in store when we host Spring Madness from May 20-22, with all seats regularly priced at $34 and less available at a savings of 50% (excluding the Miller Lite Beerpen, All-Inclusive Areas and $1 Uecker Seats). For these three games against the Los Angeles Dodgers, small Pepsi products and Klement’s hot dogs will be just $1 each.
In addition to the two annual tribute events – Cerveceros Day (Saturday, June 8 vs. Philadelphia) and the Negro Leagues Tribute Night (Saturday, July 20 vs. Miami) – we will also host Polish Heritage Day on Sunday, June 23 against the Atlanta Braves. On these dates, the Brewers will wear special uniform tops, including a “Piwowarzy” jersey (the Polish translation of “Brewers”).
Youth players will want to be in attendance for the popular Little League Night on Tuesday, June 25 as the Brewers open a series against the Chicago Cubs. All Little Leaguers in uniform (registered in advance through local youth leagues) will have the opportunity to parade around the warning track in a pre-game ceremony.
On Saturday, July 20, the 15th Annual Brewers Community Foundation 5K Famous Racing SausagesTMRun/Walk will begin at 8 a.m. for runners (8:15 a.m. for walkers) at the Klement’s Sausage Haus at Miller Park, with all proceeds supporting the programs of Brewers Community Foundation. Participants will receive a t-shirt, Klement’s hot dog, a bottle of Aquafina and a ticket voucher redeemable for one of eight specified regular season games in 2013. [Cait’s note: Use this as a warmup for the Brewers Mini-Marathon & 10K in September!]
Retro Fridays will be back once again and are designated for the first home Friday game of every month. They include: April 5 vs. Arizona, May 3 vs. St. Louis, June 7 vs. Philadelphia, July 5 vs. New York-NL, August 2 vs. Washington and September 13 vs. Cincinnati. Also, U.S. Bank Kids Autograph Saturdays, which are designated for kids 14 and under, will also return on select Saturdays throughout the season.

During each homestand, we will be meeting with John DiMartini, Executive Chef at Delaware North Sportservice/Miller Park to sample some of the latest and greatest Miller Park fare and review it here, for you.
Swing for the Fences with the Giant Slugger
Today, we were treated to the Giant Slugger, SportService’s newest roster addition & superstar.
Read on for a description, photos and review!
The Giant Slugger- $26
The Giant Slugger is a 24-inch long Klement’s Hot Dog served on a pretzel bun. The two-foot long hot dog is loaded with chili, cheese, onions & jalapenos.
Watch as it comes to life:
The finished product weighs in at approximately two pounds, nine ounces. It is perfect for sharing as it can be easily cut up and is served in an easy to carry container with handles
John & Cait: We know we gave you a recent update from marathon training on how to eat healthy, but everyone needs to splurge here and there. This is a perfect opportunity. We not saying you need to eat the whole thing yourself (please, by all means, this is meant to be shared), but this is definitely something you and your group are going to want to try. It’s good enough with just the hot dog, chili and cheese, but add that to a pretzel bun!? Surely a masterpiece. It is easy to carry in a case with handles and everything! The crew at the stand will even cut it up for you and your group. Give it a shot. It’s fun, it’s a “social” snack, it’s National Hot Dog Month and it’s America.
Where To Satisfy Your Craving: The hot dog is available on the Loge Level at Miller Park at a portable stand outside Section 215 (just steps across from the Chef’s Table) and on the Field Level at the Plaza Grill outside of Section 110.
The Crew returns home for a six-game homestand vs. the Pirates and Cardinals, starting tomorrow, Friday, July 13. Make sure you come out to Miller Park and when you do, make sure you order the Giant Slugger. Then, share your photos with us! Tweet photos of you and your gang enjoying this treat to @Bernie_Brewer with the hashtag #GiantSlugger.
So what about you? What do you think of the Giant Slugger? Do you have another favorite ballpark snack? Want to dispute our reviews? A question about concessions? Something you’d like to see featured here? Post your comments below!
We’ll be back with another edition of What John and Cait Ate during the next homestand and until then…Bon Appetit!

Last week, John, Trenni and I visited the official training partner of the Brewers Mini, Performance Running Outfitters in Brookfield, to get geared up so we can officially begin training. Not only does Performance Running provide high quality shoes, apparel, and accessories (with a discount for John and Cait readers!) , but they will also be providing the pace team for the race and they have developed an official training program for it. [For more information on the program, or to register, click here.]
The 14th Annual 5K Famous Racing Sausages Run/Walk will be held at Miller Park on Saturday, July 28, starting at 8 a.m. (for runners like you!) and 8:15 a.m. (for walkers). Applications are now available online at brewers.com/5krunwalk.
I’ve run in this 5k in the past and it’s always a blast. Even if you are not so ambitious as to be preparing for the Brewers Mini, it’s one of the most unique races in the area and, with the walk option, is also a great event for families.
One very unique feature of this event is that participants actually get to test their skills against the Famous Racing Sausages, who also run the course. The run will begin and end at the Klement’s Sausage Haus where the Brat, Hot Dog, Chorizo, Italian Sausage and Polish Sausage join the crowd on the course. And, Brewers first base coach Ed Sedar will serve celebrity starter for this year’s event.
The route also makes its way around the warning track of Miller Park, making it excellent practice for the Brewers Mini –when else are you going to get a chance to test that terrain?
So far, there are 26 States and the Armed Forces – Europe represented in the participants.
For the $30 registration fee, participants in the Run/Walk receive a commemorative t-shirt, a Terrace Reserved ticket voucher good for one of eight Brewers 2012 home games, a bottle of Aquafina water, a Klement’s hot dog and a beer for participants 21 and older. The overall top male finisher and the overall top female finisher also receive a year’s worth of Klement’s meat products.
Participants can create/join teams when they register. Teams of 15 people or more will get their team names on the back of their t-shirts.
All proceeds of the event will help Brewers Community Foundation extend financial support to non-profits that provide quality programming in the areas of health, education, recreation and basic needs and this year, the fundraising component returns as participants and fans are encouraged to help raise additional funds to benefit Fisher House Wisconsin. Participants can learn about incentive levels, prizes and read the official rules for fundraising at brewers.com/5kfundraising.
Any questions regarding the 5K Famous Racing Sausages Run/Walk or the fundraising component can be directed to Meredith Malone at firstname.lastname@example.org or by visiting brewers.com/5krunwalk.
Stay tuned for our next training post as we prepare for these two fun events!

About Fisher House: Fisher House provides a “home away from home” for military and veterans’ families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. Currently, veterans from 23 different states of all generations travel to the Milwaukee VA medical center for treatment at the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) center, while 8,000 Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans receive treatment here in Milwaukee for their wounds or injuries. Veterans and their families living beyond 50 miles from the Milwaukee VA hospital are eligible to stay for free at the Fisher House if they need to overnight. The Fisher House program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and ensures that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Due to this need, the future Milwaukee home will be one of the largest built in the United States. Fisher House Wisconsin is scheduled to break ground in 2013.
