HANK, THE BALLPARK PUP, NOMINATED FOR “DOG OF THE YEAR” IN THE CW’S “WORLD DOG AWARDS”–VOTE NOW!

The Milwaukee Brewers’ lovable dog, “Hank, the Ballpark Pup,” has been nominated for “Dog of the Year” in the CW’s World Dog Awards. Hosted by George Lopez and set to air on the CW Network on January 15, 2015, the awards show puts the spotlight on man’s best friend and highlights special achievements by Hank and other canines alike.

Being nominated for “Dog of the Year” means Hank is one of five dogs who have made the biggest impact on pop culture in 2014. Votes will be tallied through January 9 to see which of the five dogs will be awarded the title.

Hank first appeared as a stray at Brewers Spring Training on February 17, the day of the first workout for pitchers and catchers. He became a fixture at camp and immediately captured the hearts of everyone at Maryvale Baseball Park, as well as pet lovers across the world. Stories on Hank appeared everywhere from the London Daily Mail to PEOPLE Magazine, and nearly every major national news and talk show across the United States.

Hank has teamed up with the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) to initiate fundraisers benefitting the efforts to feed, care for and shelter homeless animals. In addition, 20 percent of Hank merchandise sales, such as his book and other Hank collectibles, are also donated to the WHS. To date, the Brewers and Brewers Community Foundation have raised more than $150,000 through this program.

Hank’s rise to the pop culture limelight since first walking on the field in February has been nothing short of tremendous. He has warmed the hearts of thousands of Brewers fans and dog lovers alike and continues to make a positive impact on the Milwaukee community.

Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite baseball dog on the CW’s website: http://cwtv.com/world-dog-awards/ under the category “Dog of the Year.” Voting will take place in two periods, the first continuing until December 22.  The second period of voting will occur between December 22 and January 9.

“SANTA HANK” DELIVERS TOYS AND SUPPLIES TO WISCONSIN HUMANE SOCIETY

Early this morning, Hank, the “Ballpark Pup,” rang in holiday cheer with a visit to the Wisconsin Humane Society. Dressed as Santa, Hank and his elves delivered toys and supplies to dogs and cats at the facility.

“Wherever Hank goes, he brings cheer to those he meets along the way,” said Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. “With the holidays upon us, we wanted to have Hank visit the animals at the Wisconsin Humane Society as a reminder that many share a similar experience of being strays. The Humane Society does tremendous work and we appreciate their efforts as partners with the Brewers and Hank.”

Thousands of animals come through the doors of the Wisconsin Humane Society every year, and hundreds of them are looking for a “forever home.” Hank, a former stray, visited with his friends today, bringing loads of toys and supplies donated by the Milwaukee Brewers and Brewers Community Foundation.

“The holiday season is a wonderful time of year to open your heart and home to a needy animal,” said Anne Reed, Chief Executive Officer of the Wisconsin Humane Society. “The holidays are also one of the busiest times for us for adoptions, and we look forward to welcoming Hank back to visit with all of us and to make some new friends.”

The holiday décor included the limited-edition Hank holiday ornament, which decorated the tree on display at the Wisconsin Humane Society. The ornament is included as a bonus gift for every fan who purchases two of the Brewers popular Holiday 4-Packs.”

The Brewers and Brewers Community Foundation have raised more than $150,000 for the Wisconsin Humane Society this year through the sale of Hank-themed merchandise and other fundraisers. The newest Hank-themed merchandise will also be on display at the event.

Here’s some more fun and photos from today’s event:

12/12/14 Update:  When the doors opened to the public at noon yesterday, the Wisconsin Humane Society had several families waiting in line for them outside their doors to adopt Myrtle and Minerva, a couple of the pups that were featured on our social media sites and the morning shows who came out to cover Santa Hank’s visit.

Myrtle (the elf we memed above) went home with Jamie and Pete of Menomonee Falls, where she’ll have a cat sibling to keep her company and a 1-year-old (human) sister to grow up with and Minerva went home with Jennee & Dan of Milwaukee. She’ll have two cat siblings and a dog brother who was also adopted from the Wisconsin Humane Society.

Here are some photos of the puppies with their new moms.

It’s likely only a matter of time before Millie and the rest of the dogs and cats find their own happy homes–maybe it will be one of our readers, so be sure to write in and let me know so we can feature you!

12/12/14 Update #2: I just received word that Millie was also adopted! She found a home with the Kott Family from Ixonia:

I’m so happy I can bring you this good news to kick start the weekend.

RECAP: #20in15 All-Fan Giveaways Reveal

Did you follow along with our Brewers #20in15 All-Fan Giveaways reveal last week?

AllFans-Recap_Main

In case you missed it, in 2015, we have slated a team-record 20 All-Fan Giveaway dates throughout the season.

There are 10 Sundays when every fan in attendance will receive a bobblehead featuring different Brewers personnel, two Sundays when all fans in attendance will receive Brewers gnomes for the first time ever, seven T-Shirt Friday dates (and you get to help choose the designs!) and one date where you will help determine the giveaway.

“Through surveys and various feedback forums, we know that our ‘All Fan Giveaways’ are one of the most popular added values that we offer at Miller Park,” said Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. “With that in mind, we are excited to be presenting a team-record 20 of these dates in 2015, which include not only Bobbleheads and t-shirts, but also the new Gnome items.”

In case you missed it, the #20in15 All-Fan Giveaways lineup is as follows:

Sunday, April 12: Rob Deer Bobblehead

The All Fan Giveaways start with the Rob Deer Bobblehead presented by Toyota on April 12 when the Brewers host the Pittsburgh Pirates at 1:10 p.m. This is the first Bobblehead for the former Brewers great, who spent five seasons with the Club and hit 137 home runs, while racking up 385 RBI.

Sunday, April 26: Wily Peralta Bobblehead

All fans in attendance for the April 26, 1:10 p.m. game against the St. Louis Cardinals will receive a Wily Peralta Bobblehead, presented by U.S. Cellular. The Brewers 2014 Most Valuable Pitcher of the Year, this will be the first-ever Bobblehead of Perralta. Peralta notched career-highs with 17 wins and 154 strikeouts, which also led the team.

Sunday, May 10: Special Mother’s Day BobbleHank

Helping celebrate Mother’s Day, “Hank the Ballpark Pup” will receive his second Bobblehead on May 10, when the Brewers host the Chicago Cubs at 1:10 p.m. Hank will be adorned in pink in honor of the holiday.

Sunday, May 31: Commissioner Allan H. “Bud” Selig Bobblehead

To commemorate his upcoming retirement, Commissioner Bud Selig will be recognized with a Bobblehead on May 31 when Milwaukee takes on the Arizona Diamondbacks at 1:10 p.m.  Earlier this year, the team announced that they will retire uniform number one in 2015, in honor of Selig for his commitment to keep Major League Baseball in Milwaukee.

Sunday, June 14: Carlos Gomez All-Star Bobblehead

On June 14, all fans who attend the 1:10 p.m. game against the Washington Nationals will receive a Carlos Gomez Bobblehead. Gomez will be dressed in his 2014 National League All-Star jersey, celebrating his second consecutive All-Star nod.

Sunday, June 28: Paul Molitor Bobblehead

On June 28, former Brewers great Paul Molitor will have his Bobblehead day. The Hall of Famer played 15 seasons in a Brewers uniform and appeared in over 1,800 games.

Sunday, July 19: Khris Davis Bobblehead

The next month on July 19, outfielder Khris Davis, who belted 22 homers in 2014, will be recognized with a Bobblehead giveaway as the Brewers host the Pirates

Sunday, August 2: Matt Garza Gnome

The Brewers will introduce a new promotion for the 1:10 p.m., August 2 game against the Chicago Cubs as all fans in attendance will receive a Matt Garza Gnome. This will mark the first of two gnomes that will be given away in 2015.

Sunday, August 9: Bob Uecker Bobblehead

To recognize his 60th year in baseball, the Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Uecker will have a Bobblehead day on August 9 when the Brewers host the St. Louis Cardinals at 1:10 p.m. The Bobblehead will be modeled after the statue that was unveiled last year in Uecker’s favorite spot – the last row of Miller Park.

Sunday, August 16: Jonathan Lucroy Doubles Bobblehead

The Brewers will recognize catcher Jonathan Lucroy and his record-breaking season with a Bobblehead on the August 16, 1:10 p.m. game against the Phillies. Lucroy finished the 2014 season with 53 doubles and 46 as a catcher. His 53 doubles matched a Brewers team record, while his 46 as a catcher set a new Major League record.

Sunday, August 30: Retro Vintage Brewer Bobblehead

The Brewers will once again give away a “Vintage Brewers Bobblehead” on August 30 when the team takes on the Cincinnati Reds at 1:10 p.m.  The Bobblehead is a nod to the past as it will be a replica of some of the first items of this kind created nearly 50 years ago. This year’s Vintage Brewer Bobblehead will be donning a Brewers retro jersey.

Sunday, September 20: Scooter Gennett Gnome

Scooter Gennett will join Matt Garza as the second player in 2015 to be honored with a Brewers Gnome giveaway. Gennett has hit for a combined .300 average in his first two seasons with the Brewers.

Sunday, October 4: Fan Vote Item

Finally, fans will decide the “All Fan Giveaway” item to be given away at the Sunday, October 4 (1:10 p.m.) season finale against the Chicago Cubs. An online vote will be conducted later to determine the giveaway.

For the second year in a row, “T-shirt Fridays” will return to Miller Park for 2015. On Friday home games during the months of June, July and August (June 12, June 26, July 17, July 31, August 7, August 14 and August 28), all-fans will receive a Brewers T-shirt. New this season, fans will have the opportunity to choose each of the seven T-shirt designs to be given away this season.

Beginning in January, several different T-shirt designs will be displayed at Brewers.com. Fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite designs, with the top seven winners being selected for “T-shirt Fridays.”  The seven winners will be unveiled at Brewers On Deck on Sunday, January 25.

While individual tickets won’t go on sale until early next year, you can still lock in your favorite giveaways with Season Ticket Packages.

The complete promotional schedule for the 2015 season will be announced at a later date. For more information about All-Fan Giveaways and information on various ticket plans, fans are encouraged to visit Brewers.com/allfans.

Stay tuned for more details on the fan voting for the T-Shirt Fridays and the final All-Fan Giveaway of 2015.

Our Dog Has His Day: Wisconsin Humane Society Day at Miller Park

It’s Wisconsin Humane Society Day here at Miller Park, all thanks to Hank, the famous Ballpark Pup who first appeared at Brewers Spring Training camp on February 17, the day of the first workout for pitchers and catchers.

Since that day when he immediately captured the hearts of everyone at Maryvale Baseball Park, as well as pet-lovers across the world, we have worked closely with the Wisconsin Humane Society on both the care for and events involving Hank, raising awareness and funds for the organization along the way.

We are pleased to honor this great organization by hosting many special festivities at the ballpark.

Tonight, all fans in attendance at the game received a “BobbleHank,” in partnership with West Bend Mutual Insurance, and a portion of the proceeds from tickets sales for the game were donated to the Wisconsin Humane Society’s “Hank Fund,” a pool that benefits stray animals in their care transferred from the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, as well as stray animals at the WHS Ozaukee and Racine Campuses. Brewers players have stepped forward and contributed to the fund as well.

Hank Bobble

Then, Brewers Community Foundation presented a $130,000 check to the Wisconsin Humane Society in an on-field, pre-game ceremony featuring Hank, the “Ballpark Pup.” The donation was raised from sales of Hank merchandise items in the Brewers Team Store by Majestic, as well as donations from fans at Hank’s various appearances. Twenty percent of the retail sales from all Hank-related items benefit the Wisconsin Humane Society’s “Hank Fund.”

Hank Check

During the game, the Wisconsin Humane Society as well as the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) each have an information table located on the Field Level Concourse, and the two organizations also have adoptable dogs for fans to visit in the right field corner (also the Field Level Concourse).

During the entire three game series against the Cincinnati Reds, Brewers Community Foundation invites fans to drop off items for animal shelters during the Foundation’s Drive for Charity. Items that will be collected include canned or dry puppy, dog, cat and kitten food; dog and cat toys (no stuffed toys, please); dog and cat treats; dog harnesses; cat litter; towels; and stainless steel food and water bowls.  While supplies last, fans that donate an item or make a $5 contribution will receive a collectible pin featuring, Hank.  Donation tables and bins will be located at the Hot Corner, the Right Field Gate, and next to the Field Level Guest Relations near the Home Plate Gate. They will be available from gate opening through the second inning.

Drive for Charity

Also, the newest Brewers mascot, a Hank-themed “walkabout,” made its debut. The mascot is mingling with fans on the concourses tonight and will be at future Brewers home games.

HANK MASCOT

He also made an appearance in the Brewers TV Booth:

Hank the (actual) dog also appeared in the Sausage Race in the middle of the 6th inning:

In addition, the Brewers Team Store introduced the latest Hank item: a Hank watch from Modify Watches. Modify Watches are fun and colorful timepieces featuring mix-and-match faces and straps. Custom combinations mean you can build the perfect “Mods” to match your style, fit your mood and support the Crew.

Hank Dog Watch

Earlier this week, we also announced that a new children’s book, “Hank, The Ballpark Pup” will be released on Thursday at the Brewers Team Store.

Thanks to all 45, 205 of you who came out for Wisconsin Humane Society Day at Miller Park!

We’re happy that Hank’s story can brighten everyone’s day, and also greatly benefit other animals who are stray, homeless or have other needs along the way.
