RBI Athlete of the Month: Darian Hemphill

Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities, or the RBI Program, is a MLB youth baseball initiative and partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs. The RBI program was developed by former scout and Major Leaguer John Young in Los Angeles in 1989 to provide youth ages 9 to 17 the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of baseball. Each month, we honor RBI student athletes on the diamond that portray dedication to academics, community involvement, leadership, reliability and monthly performance.

This month’s honoree is Darian Hemphill.  Darian is a recent graduate of Rufus King International School, where she was a two-time sport student athlete. Darian grew up at the Mary Ryan Boys & Girls Club since she was 10 years old. She participates in soccer, basketball, volleyball and softball. She currently plays third base and shortstop.

For the past two years, Darian has been volunteering as the Mary Ryan Football Team manager, the girls’ volleyball coach and helped run the Boys & Girls Clubs pitch, hit and run sectional competition. Darian will lead the first ever Milwaukee Brewers RBI Girls Softball Tournament team this summer as the team competes for the chance to advance to the 2014 MLB RBI World Series in August.

Congratulations, Darian, keep up the great work!

Want to help support the RBI Program? It’s as simple as sending a tweet!

When a Brewers pitcher strikes out an opposing batter, make sure to jump on Twitter and tweet: #WHIFF  and include our handle, @Brewers.

That’s all you have to do! Each month, if we’re in the top 7 teams, we can win anywhere from $2,500 to $10,000 for our local RBI program. AND the team with the most #Whiff tweets for the season will receive an additional $20,000 donation!

We won $7500 in the month of April and we’re close to doing the same in May, so keep tweeting as our chances to help the local program are looking good! View the current standings at
