Joe Torre to be Inducted to the Milwaukee Braves Honor Roll

The Milwaukee Brewers and the Milwaukee Braves Historical Association will induct Joe Torre into the Braves Honor Roll on Thursday, May 8 in a private ceremony at Miller Park.

Torre signed with the Milwaukee Braves in 1959 and played the first six years of his 18-year Major League playing career in Milwaukee. Over his nine-year career with the Braves, Torre hit .294 with 142 home runs and 552 RBI. He made three All-Star teams in Milwaukee and nine All-Star teams during his career. His best season as a player came in 1971 with St. Louis when he was named National League MVP and led the league in hits (230), RBI (137) and batting average (.363). Torre finished his Major League career with the New York Mets in 1977.

Following his playing career, Torre went on to be one of the most decorated managers in Major League history. He managed the New York Mets (1977-1981), Atlanta Braves (1982-1984), St. Louis Cardinals (1990-1995), New York Yankees (1996-2007) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2008-2010). He won four World Series as manager of the Yankees (1996, 1998-2000) and was named American League Manager of the Year in 1996 and 1998. In December of 2013, it was announced that he would be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame (scheduled for this summer).

There are currently 12 members of the Milwaukee Braves Honor Roll, which recognizes each member with a bronze plaque. The list of honorees includes Warren Spahn (2004), Johnny Logan (2005), Andy Pafko (2006), Bobby Thomson (2008), Bob Uecker (2009), Felix Mantilla (2010), Eddie Mathews (2010), Joe Adcock (2011), Frank Torre (2011), Del Crandall (2012), Hank Aaron (2012) and Gene Conley (2013).
