Our Dog Has His Day: Wisconsin Humane Society Day at Miller Park

It’s Wisconsin Humane Society Day here at Miller Park, all thanks to Hank, the famous Ballpark Pup who first appeared at Brewers Spring Training camp on February 17, the day of the first workout for pitchers and catchers.

Since that day when he immediately captured the hearts of everyone at Maryvale Baseball Park, as well as pet-lovers across the world, we have worked closely with the Wisconsin Humane Society on both the care for and events involving Hank, raising awareness and funds for the organization along the way.

We are pleased to honor this great organization by hosting many special festivities at the ballpark.

Tonight, all fans in attendance at the game received a “BobbleHank,” in partnership with West Bend Mutual Insurance, and a portion of the proceeds from tickets sales for the game were donated to the Wisconsin Humane Society’s “Hank Fund,” a pool that benefits stray animals in their care transferred from the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, as well as stray animals at the WHS Ozaukee and Racine Campuses. Brewers players have stepped forward and contributed to the fund as well.

Then, Brewers Community Foundation presented a $130,000 check to the Wisconsin Humane Society in an on-field, pre-game ceremony featuring Hank, the “Ballpark Pup.” The donation was raised from sales of Hank merchandise items in the Brewers Team Store by Majestic, as well as donations from fans at Hank’s various appearances. Twenty percent of the retail sales from all Hank-related items benefit the Wisconsin Humane Society’s “Hank Fund.”

During the game, the Wisconsin Humane Society as well as the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) each have an information table located on the Field Level Concourse, and the two organizations also have adoptable dogs for fans to visit in the right field corner (also the Field Level Concourse).

During the entire three game series against the Cincinnati Reds, Brewers Community Foundation invites fans to drop off items for animal shelters during the Foundation’s Drive for Charity. Items that will be collected include canned or dry puppy, dog, cat and kitten food; dog and cat toys (no stuffed toys, please); dog and cat treats; dog harnesses; cat litter; towels; and stainless steel food and water bowls.  While supplies last, fans that donate an item or make a $5 contribution will receive a collectible pin featuring, Hank.  Donation tables and bins will be located at the Hot Corner, the Right Field Gate, and next to the Field Level Guest Relations near the Home Plate Gate. They will be available from gate opening through the second inning.

Also, the newest Brewers mascot, a Hank-themed “walkabout,” made its debut. The mascot is mingling with fans on the concourses tonight and will be at future Brewers home games.

In addition, the Brewers Team Store introduced the latest Hank item: a Hank watch from Modify Watches. Modify Watches are fun and colorful timepieces featuring mix-and-match faces and straps. Custom combinations mean you can build the perfect “Mods” to match your style, fit your mood and support the Crew.

Earlier this week, we also announced that a new children’s book, “Hank, The Ballpark Pup” will be released on Thursday at the Brewers Team Store.

Thanks to all 45, 205 of you who came out for Wisconsin Humane Society Day at Miller Park!

We’re happy that Hank’s story can brighten everyone’s day, and also greatly benefit other animals who are stray, homeless or have other needs along the way.

With the September 13 “BobbleHank” game now limited to single seats and standing room only tickets, fans of Hank, “The Ballpark Pup,” can still get in on the fun as today we announced another promotion celebrating the team’s famous four-legger.

On Wednesday, August 6, all fans attending the Brewers versus Giants game at 7:10 pm will receive a full-size Hank Beach Towel, compliments of Meijer.

In addition, Hank (and his Hank House) will be available for a photo opportunity with the first 500 fans in line beginning when gates open that night (90 minutes before first pitch). The photo opportunity will take place on the Field Level concourse near the Right Field Gate entrance.

“Based on the fan response, the BobbleHank giveaway was easily one of our most popular promotions ever, and when the game quickly reached standing room only status, there were a lot of fans who were disappointed,” said Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. “We expect that the Beach Towel giveaway will be just as popular, and with Hank appearing at both of these games, it promises to be a fun evening at Miller Park for everyone.”

Tickets for the Hank Beach Towel night and all remaining Brewers games are on sale at the Miller Park Box Office, through brewers.com, or by phone at (414-902-4000).

New #BrewersMini +10K Fundraising Incentive: Special Brewers Mini BobbleHank!

Have you signed up to run the Brewers Mini-Marathon or 10k this year? If not, there is still time!

If you’ve already committed, we hope your training is going well!

Whether you’re participating in the race, or you’ve thought about it, but don’t have the chance or the stamina this year, you can still participate in another race–the race to wipe out childhood cancer and related blood disorders—one child at a time as the fundraising efforts for the event benefit the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer).

Over the past two years,  the Brewers Mini + 10K has raised over $145,000 for the MACC Fund by participants in this event. With your help, we can push that number even higher.

And because incentives are helpful not only in racing, but also in fundraising, new for 2014, Brewers Enterprises has a great new one to keep you motivated:

Raise a minimum of $40 and receive a limited edition bobble head of Hank the Ballpark Pup sporting his Brewers Mini-Marathon + 10K gear!  Hank is one of the newest and most beloved members of the Brewers team after being found and adopted at Spring Training this year.

BobbleHank_frontBobbleHank_back

Hank first appeared at camp on February 17, the day of the first workout for pitchers and catchers. The Brewers have worked closely with the Arizona and Wisconsin Humane Societies since that first day, and their staff provided counsel on how best to care for Hank’s basic needs as he adjusted to his new surroundings. Hank’s circle of caregivers in Phoenix worked tirelessly to ensure that he had the best care possible until his “forever home” was determined.

Hank made frequent appearances at Spring Training games in a concourse booth, where fans lined up for an opportunity to have their photo taken with Hank in exchange for a voluntary donation to the Humane Society. Through these and other opportunities, Hank has already helped raise thousands of dollars to support the cause.

Hank arrived in Milwaukee in mid-March on a Southwest Airlines charter flight and, although he has been adopted by a staff member at the Club, he has made several appearances at Miller Park and other events. Hank merchandise (sales from which benefit the Wisconsin Humane Society) continues to fly off the shelves and tickets for a Wisconsin Humane Society Day featuring a BobbleHank giveaway are virtually sold out.

That’s one more reason why you’ll want to sign up for the race and help fundraise for this important cause.  But you’ll have to act fast. These Hank bobbleheads are limited and available to only the first 2,750 race participants who raise $40 or more.  Only one bobble head per race participant, given for raising/donating a minimum of $40.  All funds raised benefit the MACC Fund.

Individual fundraisers will also have the chance to get their name entered in a raffle for great prizes.  The top three individuals or groups will win a special prize.

Prizes include everything from autographed baseballs and a game-used bat to a trip down Bernie’s slide and a party at Helfaer Field. For a full list of prizes, click here.

If you’re running the race and have already started fundraising, that’s great! Please know your support and efforts are much appreciated We’d also like to hear from you–what’s been working? Have you tried campaign emails or letters? How about a fundraising party, teaming up with others, or getting creative? Garage sales, bake sales and car washes are some easy and fun ideas to help boost your total.

So there you have it. On Saturday, September 20, we all have two common goals–to finish the race strong and to help support this important cause.

You’re already online,so just click here to start your fundraising efforts right away!

Cheers!

Hank, the “Ballpark Pup,” will be featured as a ninth Bobblehead to be given away to all-fans as part of a Wisconsin Humane Society Day on Saturday, September 13 at Miller Park. The Brewers take on the Cincinnati Reds that evening at 6:10 pm.

And, we’ve got a sneak peek at an early rendering of the bobble for you here:

BobbleHank

The “Bobblehank” game is essentially sold out. We only have limited standing room and obstructed view tickets available through Brewers.com, at the Miller Park Box Office, and by calling 414-902-4000.

A portion of the proceeds from tickets sales for that game will be donated by the Brewers to the Wisconsin Humane Society’s “Hank Fund,” a pool that benefits stray animals in their care transferred from the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission, as well as stray animals at the WHS Ozaukee and Racine Campuses. Brewers players have stepped forward and also will contribute to the fund.

The team, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Humane Society, will sponsor numerous initiatives that evening, including an Adopt-a-Pet event on the Miller Park concourse where fans can meet four-legged friends available for adoption. In addition, all weekend long fans are encouraged by Brewers Community Foundation to bring new pet supplies that will be distributed to area rescue organizations as part of the “Drive for Charity.” Items that will be collected include canned or dry puppy, cat and kitten food; dog and cat toys (no stuffed toys, please); dog and cat treats; dog harnesses; cat litter; stainless steel food and water bowls. Those donating will receive a special commemorative pin with Hank’s likeness to mark the occasion.

We’ve Heard the Barking: Here’s Your BobbleHank; Financial Donations by Brewers and Players, Adopt-a-Pet and Pet Supply Collection Drive to Benefit Rescue Organizations Also Tied Into Wisconsin Humane Society Day

In response to overwhelming popular demand, we announced today that we are adding a 15th all-fan giveaway to the schedule in 2014: a BobbleHank.

In case you missed it, we teased this announcement earlier this week:

Hank, the “Ballpark Pup,” will be featured as a ninth Bobblehead to be given away to all-fans as part of a Wisconsin Humane Society Day on Saturday, September 13 at Miller Park. The Brewers take on the Cincinnati Reds that evening at 6:10 pm.

Tickets to the game are available now through Brewers.com, at the Miller Park Box Office, and by calling 414-902-4000.

Brewers players have stepped forward and also will contribute to the fund.

“We had Hank down here with us for almost a month, and he became one of the most popular guys in the clubhouse,” said Brewers pitcher Brandon Kintzler, who actively supports the Wisconsin Humane Society through financial contributions and participation in other initiatives. “We wanted to do something special to benefit other animals who are stray, homeless or have other needs, and there’s no better cause than helping build this fund.”

Brandon Kinztler bonded with Hank during Spring Training in AZ.

The team, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Humane Society, will sponsor numerous initiatives that evening, including an Adopt-a-Pet event on the Miller Park concourse where fans can meet four-legged friends available for adoption. “Hank has crossed every demographic and is so much more than just a sports or pop-culture phenomenon,” said Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. “We’re seeing that his story can brighten everyone’s day, but it also greatly benefits these worthy organizations that do so much good in our community.”

Hank first appeared at camp on February 17, the day of the first workout for pitchers and catchers. Hank’s circle of caregivers in Phoenix worked tirelessly to ensure that he had the best care possible until his “forever home” was determined.

“Our heartfelt gratitude to the Milwaukee Brewers and our local community cannot be overstated,” said Anne Reed, President & CEO of the Wisconsin Humane Society. “Hank has inspired us all with his storybook tale, and we so appreciate this generous donation, as well as the opportunity to showcase homeless dogs on Adopt-a-Pet Day.”

Hank arrived in Milwaukee on March 16 on a Southwest Airlines charter flight and made his Miller Park debut last week as merchandise bearing his image was released at the Brewers Team Store by Majestic.  Twenty-percent of sales of Hank merchandise will be donated back to the Wisconsin Humane Society’s “Hank Fund.”
