Aramis Ramirez Named National League Player of the Week

Brewers third baseman Aramis Ramirez has been named National League Player of the Week for June 29th-July 5th. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.

Ramirez hit a Major League-best .545 last week, collecting 12 hits in 22 at bats over seven games, while his .577 on-base percentage was tied with teammate Adam Lind for baseball’s top mark. The 37-year-old also had 11 RBI (2nd in NL), a .773 slugging percentage (6th in NL) and 17 total bases (tied for sixth in NL), and clubbed two doubles with a home run, a stolen base and four runs scored. Ramirez collected at least one hit and one RBI in each of his seven outings, including five multi-hit games, leading Milwaukee to a perfect 7-0 record for the week. On Sunday, the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native capped his week with a 2-for-4 effort that included a run-scoring single in the top of the first, en-route to a 6-1 victory at Cincinnati. Ramirez also had two hits and an RBI in Saturday’s matchup between the two clubs. He clubbed his 10th home run of the season in Friday’s series opener at Great American Ball Park on the way to a 12-1 win, giving him double-digit home runs for the 15th consecutive season. Ramirez’s two-run double in the third inning on Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies
staked the Brew Crew to a 4-0 lead in an eventual 9-5 victory at Citizens Bank Park. He had two run-scoring singles in Tuesday’s tilt at Philly, driving in two in the top of the first and tying the game at 3-3 in the eighth in a 4-3 win. Ramirez also swiped his first base in nearly a year — just the 29th stolen base of his 18-year career. This is his fourth career NL Player of the Week honor and first since winning for the week ending July 3, 2011 while a member of the Chicago Cubs.

Other noteworthy performances last week included Pittsburgh’s Neil Walker (.464, 13 H, 2 HR, 9 RBI, .750 SLG, .516 OBP); Colorado’s Jorge De La Rosa (2-0, 1.38 ERA, 10 SO, 13.0 IP); Philadelphia’s Freddy Galvis (.481, 13 H, .533 OBP) and Cesar Hernandez (.433, 13 H, 4 RBI, 5 SB); Milwaukee’s Jonathan Lucroy (.429, 12 H, 9 R, .515 OBP) and Adam Lind (.360, 3 HR, 12 RBI, .760 SLG); Chicago’s Kyle Hendricks (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 12 SO, 13.1 IP); and Washington’s Jordan Zimmermann (2-0, 0.61 ERA, 14 SO, 14.2 IP).

In recognition of his National League Player of the Week Award, Aramis Ramirez will be awarded a watch courtesy of Game Time, the leader in licensed sports watches, available at MLB.com.

It’s Father’s Day Weekend: Call Up Dad to Have a Catch

Father’s Day is always a great day at the ballpark. There’s just something special about taking in a game with your dad.

This year, the Brewers are celebrating in Colorado, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate along with us!

First, we’ve got a few special Father’s Day e-cards that you can share:

Also, don’t forget about our #BrewersAllStarDad contest. Submit your photos via Twitter or Instagram by Sunday night for your chance to win a night in Fox Sports Wisconsin’s suite.

Speaking of Brewers All-Star Dads, many of the Brewers players are fathers themselves. I’ve been hard at work collecting photos of Brewers players with their kids, and/or with their dads. I’ll be adding to this gallery over the weekend and you’ll see these photos on our social media platforms as well.

We’re also celebrating with plenty of blue as as Major League Baseball has once again teamed up with the Prostate Cancer Foundation to dedicate Father’s Day to the fight against prostate cancer. Here are just a few of the examples of blue you might see when you tune in to the Brewers vs. Rockies game on Sunday:

  • MLB blue ribbon wristbands
  • Ribbon decals on uniforms
  • Blue dugout lineup cards
  • Father’s Day base jewels

Through the “Keep Dad in the Game” program, MLB will also be stressing the importance of regular prostate exams as a means of prevention and early detection of prostate cancer. This year also marks participation of MLB players in the 20th annual Home Run Challenge, through which fans can make a monetary pledge for each home run hit during all scheduled MLB games from Monday, June 15-Sunday, June 21. The program has raised approximately $45 million since its inception. Fans can pledge at homerunchallenge.org.

This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. Prostate cancer affected my family when my dad was diagnosed with the disease in 2007 at age 59, after having a screening. He had surgery in early 2008 to remove his prostate. It was a scary time for our family, but after five years, he is now cancer-free and officially cured.

I’m so grateful that my dad is alive and well today and I hope that the efforts of MLB continue help keep more dads in the game.

I want to wish my dad a very Happy Father’s Day. I love you dad. Thank you for introducing me to this great game. I wouldn’t be where I am today without your love and support!

Happy Father’s Day to my dad and all the dads out there–Go BREWERS!

Our Special Make-A-Wish Guest Kelci Visits Miller Park

Some of you may recall that back in March, thanks to Make-A-Wish Wisconsin and Arizona, we hosted Kelci’s Wish Day at Maryvale during Spring Training.

Kelci, 9,  and her family traveled from Milwaukee down to Arizona to take a behind-the-scenes tour of Maryvale where she had the chance to meet with several Brewers players & coaches during batting practice (including her favorite player, Carlos Gomez) and also threw out the first pitch–to another favorite, Jonathan Lucroy.

Today, we were happy to have Kelci out to visit us again, this time at Miller Park. She was here today to film a video with Time Warner Cable Sports:

While here, Kelci and her mom, Karen, were interviewed and in between filming, Kelci found time to work on her homework… with a little help.

Kelci gets help on her homework from Mike Fiers, Matt Garza and Kyle Lohse.

Mike Fiers, Matt Garza and Kyle Lohse “pitched in” to help her list off the state capitals. (For those scoring at home, Kelci told me later that Matt Garza was the most helpful at this task).

Kelci also got a giant hug from  her favorite player, Carlos Gomez, after reuniting with him:

She even pitched a little pitcher’s batting practice to Kyle Lohse:

Here are a few more photos from Kelci’s afternoon at the ballpark:

As I write the Brewers are leading 5-0 in the first, including home runs by Scooter Gennett and Adam Lind, so it looks like her special day is going to be capped off by a pretty good game, too.

Brewers Gear Up for 2015 T-Shirt Fridays

Back by popular demand, T-Shirt Fridays will return to Miller Park for the 2015 season. All fans in attendance during each of the seven Friday home games from June through August will receive a complimentary Brewers–themed T-shirt (available in both medium and extra-large sizes). And for the first time, fans decided the designs for each of the seven T-Shirt Friday giveaways through an online vote earlier this year.

Down in Arizona, we had an early shipment of the t-shirts delivered to Maryvale and several of the Brewers players were excited to get the shirts–and model them–for us.

Take a look:

Tickets for the T-Shirt Friday dates (as well as all of the other home games) are on sale now at brewers.com.

A Wish Come True in Spring Training for Adam

We are pleased to welcome another special guest to today’s game. Thanks to Make-A-Wish Wisconsin and Arizona, today is  Adam’s Wish Day at Maryvale.

Adam Fritz, 16,  and his family traveled from New Berlin, Wisconsin to fulfill Adam’s wish to attend Brewers Spring Training and meet Ryan Braun.

Prior to the start of the Brewers vs. Reds game, Adam took a behind-the-scenes tour of Maryvale where he received his own uniform and had the chance to meet with several Brewers players during batting practice.

He also enjoyed some quality one-on-one time with Ryan Braun, talking with him and even getting to play catch.

Adam is a pitcher on his high school team back home and Ryan was very impressed by his arm.

“My favorite part was getting to meet Ryan Braun,” Adam told me. “We talked about baseball, where I’m from…and he told me I’m an inspiration to him.” Ryan, who gave Adam his batting gloves straight off his hands after BP, also surprised Adam with a baseball bat inscribed, “To Adam, Continued success in all that you do! Keep fighting! All my best-Ryan Braun.”

Adam also threw out the first pitch:

Here are a just a few photos from Adam’s special day:

Adam was accompanied by his parents, Kevin and Michele; his brother, Austin and his brother’s girlfriend, Lizzy. The family is here for the week and plans to tour Chase Field and attend another Brewers game at Maryvale.

A Wish Come True in Spring Training for Kelci

We have a special guest with us at today’s game.  Thanks to Make-A-Wish Wisconsin and Arizona, today is  Kelci’s Wish Day at Maryvale.

Kelci, 9,  and her family traveled from Milwaukee, Wisconsin down to Arizona on Saturday. They’re here until Wednesday and today and tomorrow are the crux of the trip–she’s fulfilling her wish to attend Brewers Spring Training.

Prior to the start of the Brewers vs. Royals game, Kelci took a behind-the-scenes tour of Maryvale, had the chance to meet with several Brewers players & coaches during batting practice (including her favorite player, Carlos Gomez) and also threw out the first pitch–to another favorite, Jonathan Lucroy:

Tomorrow, she has the opportunity to tour Chase Field and attend the Brewers game again.

When I asked Kelci why this was her wish, she said, “I like watching baseball.”

When I asked her why, she said, “There are barely any fights. I like how they bat and stuff.” Seems like as good a reason as any!

Here are a just a few photos from Kelci’s special day:

Kelci was accompanied by her parents, Dewey and Karen; her sister Kylee; her aunt, Lynn; and her grandmother, Ann.
