Aaron Rodgers, Sophia Minnaert Respond to Brewers “Ice Bucket Challenge”

Over the weekend, the Ice Bucket Challenge made its way through the Brewers Clubhouse, starting with Ryan Braun on Saturday and culminating with Kyle Lohse, Jonathan Lucroy and Carlos Gomez on Sunday.

Brewers Ice Bucket Challenge

Designed to help raise money and awareness for ALS, the Ice Bucket Challenge is quite simple: Fill up a bucket of ice water, as cold as you can get. Have someone record a video while you dump the bucket over your head. Then share on social media, issuing the challenge to three friends.

Yesterday, Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (via Jonathan Lucroy);PGA golfer Jason Dufner (via Kyle Lohse, likely as payback for the Stadium Shootout Golf Challenge); and FOX Sports Wisconsin’s Sophia Minnaert (via Carlos Gomez) were tapped for the challenge and so far, two of the three complied.

Aaron Rodgers:

Sophia Minnaert:

No word yet from Jason Dufner, but we’ll give him an extension on the 24-hour window commonly given for the challenge, as the golfer was forced to withdraw from the 2014 PGA Championship after nine holes on Thursday due to bulging discs in his neck.

Thanks to each of these Ice Bucket Challenge participants for being such good sports and helping to raise awareness and funds for ALS. To learn more about how you can help, click here.

Lucroy, Lohse & Gomez Complete “Ice Bucket Challenge” Issued by Ryan Braun–See Who is On Deck!

In case you missed it, yesterday, Ryan Braun completed the “Ice Bucket Challenge”  issued to him by former Brewers prospect and recent winner of The Bachelorette, Josh Murray.

In turn, Ryan Braun tagged Jonathan Lucroy, Kyle Lohse, and Carlos Gomez to step up the the plate and help #StrikeOutALS, which they did together, today:

Bob Uecker was standing by and we captured his reaction:

And here are some stills:

Carlos Gomez, Kyle Lohse & Jonathan Lucroy prepare for the Ice Bucket Challenge while Bob Uecker looks on.

Whew! That's cold! But it's for a good cause--helping to #StrikeOutALS.

On Deck are Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (challenged by Jonathan Lucroy); PGA golfer Jason Dufner (challenged by Kyle Lohse, likely as payback for the Stadium Shootout Golf Challenge); and FOX Sports Wisconsin’s Sophia Minnaert (challenged by Carlos Gomez).

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease after the famed baseball player whose struggle with this disease and death in 1941 brought it national attention.

And recently, the disease has been gaining a LOT of attention from this Ice Bucket Challenge, started by ALS patients Pete Frates and Pat Quinn to help raise money and awareness for the disease. The challenge is quite simple: Fill up a bucket of ice water, as cold as you can get. Have someone record a video while you dump the bucket over your head. Then share on social media, issuing the challenge to three friends.

12/12/12 Brings a Day of Dozens! First Donuts, Now Aaron Rodgers Day!

In case you missed it, earlier today, the Klement’s Famous Racing Sausages and Bernie Brewer surprised fans by treating them to a free Brewers themed donut and small cup of coffee at the Dunkin’ Donuts on Miller Park Way

Well, today is certainly a day of dozens, as thanks to Jennifer Brilowski, a woman from Stevens Point, the State of Wisconsin has chosen today (12/12/12) as Aaron Rodgers Day

Jennifer began the Aaron Rodgers Day movement with a Facebook page and today, a number of people and businesses are are participating in events across the state.

The day includes people donning jerseys, parties at local watering holes, stores and even offices, and also a charitable angle: there’s a call for fans to donate $12 to the MACC Fund today, Rodgers’ charity of choice.

Here at the Brewers, we’re happy for Aaron. He’s certainly deserving and today, we’re celebrating by reflecting on our 2012 TV campaign, featuring the Green Bay MVP and our own MVP, Ryan Braun. Thanks again to Aaron for participating and helping make this an award-winning campaign; he was great to work with and funny to boot!

It’s a Major Award! Trip to NYC Successful for Marketing Department

As I mentioned earlier this week, my boss, Kathy, and I were in New York this week for a trip bookended by two separate award ceremonies… and we’re pleased to tell you it was a very successful trip!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

ProMaxBDA’s 2012 Sports Media Marketing Awards took place on Tuesday night at the Capitale in New York City.

This event recognizes the best and brightest in sports media marketing, promotion and design. Earlier this fall, we had learned that our 2012 TV campaign was a finalist in the “Television/Video: Best  TV/Video Campaign” category and that one spot in particular was a finalist for “Television/Video: Best Use of Humor.”

So, Kathy and I made plans to represent our marketing team at the event, along with Ellen Homb and Jessica Himsel from 2-Story, the agency that worked with us to produce these spots.

After a nice cocktail reception, dinner and program hosted by Jay Mohr, we are pleased to tell you that our suitcases were a little heavier coming back because we brought home both a SILVER and a GOLD award!

We were awarded the “Gold” in the “Television/Video: Best Use of Humor” category for the “Glare” television spot.  This particular ad featured Ryan Braun, Yovani Gallardo, Jonathan Lucroy and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Watch it here:

Other finalists included the Boston Bruins, Sporting Kansas City, the National Hockey League and the Philadelphia Flyers.

We received the “Silver” in the “Television/Video: Best TV/Video Campaign” for the entire 2012 television campaign that featured various Brewers players and Rodgers.

In this category, the “Gold” went to the National Hockey League for their campaign promoting the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Other finalists included the Philadelphia Eagles, the Toronto Blue Jays and NFL Sunday Ticket.

A total of five spots made up our 2012 television advertising campaign.  In addition to “Glare,” the other four spots were: “3-Step Drop,” “Bad Reception,” “Best Guy” and “Other Job.”  The full collection of spots can be viewed at Brewers.com/2012TV.

The production of all of our 2012  television spots was handled by the creative team of 2-Story and Metaphystico. The shoot occurred in late February at the our Spring Training facility in Maryvale, Arizona.

Both  of these awards came in the Teams, Leagues, Conferences and Collegiate Category.

We are very honored to be recognized and are humbled to be awarded both a silver and a gold with so much talent in this industry. Again, we would like to thank 2-Story and Metaphystico for their hard work as well. It’s a total team effort.

The second award ceremony took place this morning as part of the Ivy Sports Symposium at Columbia University, where I was extremely humbled once again when I was recognized as a member of the 10 NEXT Class of 2012, an annual award recognizing a distinct group of 10 individuals in the sports business industry under the age of 30 that have achieved a high level of success at a young age. The Symposium was an excellent opportunity to meet the rest of my class, as well as many other esteemed members of the sports industry, and all day, I basked in their greatness and again, felt incredibly honored to be part of this group. I also met the future of the sports world, as many students from all around the country also attended this event.

It was a whirlwind trip, but definitely fruitful and Kathy and were I proud to represent the Brewers at these events. Now, the bar has been raised for 2013–bring it on!
Cheers!

Brewers Release Final Aaron Rodgers Spot

Right before Opening Day, we debuted our 2012 TV spots and let you know that there would be four additional spots featuring Packers MVP Quarterback Aaron Rodgers released throughout the season.

If you’ve been following along, you know that the spots follow Aaron along as he tries to score a spot on our roster during Spring Training.

First, Aaron’s tried to show off his pitching skills; however, his unusual delivery (“Three-Step Drop”),  distracting jewelry (“Glare”)  and  incessant phone calls while on the mound (“Bad Reception”) have hurt his chances. [Note: You can even listen to some of Aaron's voicemails here.]

Next,  Aaron decided to try and showcase his hitting prowess (“Best Guy”), but, in the final spot released today entitled, “Other Job,” although he has worked hard all spring to make the cut, Aaron realizes that the gig is up and duty calls–quite literally. Take a look:

All of the 2012 TV spots can be found here. Check them out and then vote on your favorite in our poll!

Once again, it was a fun TV shoot and we’re very proud of the finished product. Kudos to 2-Story Creative and Metaphystico for their great work! We hope you like the spots as much as we enjoyed working on them!

Brewers Debut 2012 TV Spots

Today is a very exciting day–the debut of our 2012 TV Spots!

As you know, in February, members of our Consumer Marketing Department (myself included), as well as our creative team comprised of 2-Story Creative and Metaphystico, went down to Arizona to film our 2012 TV spots featuring our players, as we’ve done for the past few seasons.

This year, as you’ll recall, we also had a special guest at our shoot.

Packers MVP Quarterback Aaron Rodgers paid a visit to his friends on the team, took part in Brewers Spring Training workouts and then participated in our shoot, along with the numerous other players who are appearing in this year’s spots, including Jonathan Lucroy, Yovani Gallardo, and our own MVP, Ryan Braun, among others.

We filmed five spots with Aaron–the first of which was released today. The four remaining Rodgers spots will be released every few weeks as we start the season–so look for a continuation of this story here on John and Cait…Plus 9 and on brewers.com/2012TV.

In addition to the spots with Rodgers, we also filmed new spots that feature only Brewers players.

You can view the new spots by clicking on the links below. Then, make sure you come back here and vote on your favorite!

3-Step Drop: Doug Melvin and Ron Roenicke know talent when they see it. This year at Spring Training they had their eyes on a promising rookie from Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Big Numbers: Aramis Ramirez loves baseball. He enjoys hanging out in the clubhouse, working on the field, wearing a Brewers uniform and most of all, putting up big numbers.

Translation: Mat Gamel is new to first base this year. Norichika Aoki is new to just about everything in the United States. Fortunately, Brewers Baseball is a universal language.

Radio Control: Pitcher Shaun Marcum is focused on control. Not just on the mound – all around the stadium. (Take note of a new cameo appearance by Yovani Gallardo at the end!)

It was a fun TV shoot and we’re very proud of the finished product. We hope you like the spots as much as we enjoyed working on them!

Click on the poll below to tell us which one is your favorite so far!
