Off to the Races! Time to Start Training for the 5K, 10K or Brewers Mini!

This summer, we’re offering you a plethora of opportunities to run in, around and through Miller Park.

From the Brewers Community Foundation’s Famous Racing Sausages 5k Run/Walk (which is almost sold out-hurry!) to the Brewers Mini-Marathon +10K, there’s something for athletes of every level.

And, even if you’re fairly new to running, there are training programs designed to help you hit your stride.

For the second year in a row, we are pleased to announce that Performance Running Outfitters is the official Training Partner of the Brewers Mini-Marathon + 10k. Performance Running Outfitters is locally owned by Trae and Jessica Hoepner, who together we have over 20 years of coaching and 30 years of running expertise.

This year, PRO is offering two different training programs:

Brewers 10K Training Program

The Get Fit 10k program is geared towards the moderately fit runner, former runner, or beginning runner who has already finished a 5k and wants more of a challenge with weekly motivation. This is a progressive course which will focus on completing a longer distance each week.  Performance Running Outfitters will provide a training program, weekly emails with motivation and necessary information for runners.

It is recommended that you can run a 5k before beginning this program and have an “ok” from a medical professional with a clean bill of health. The program will begin on Tuesday, August 6 and meet for 8 weeks. Runners looking for additional group support are encouraged to attend PRO’s Thursday fun runs.

An informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 23 at 7pm at the PRO Brookfield & Shorewood Locations.

For a $65 fee (which does not include race registration), program participants will receive:

  • Tech Tee
  • Water bottle
  • Weekly emails with advice from coach
  • PRO Coupon – 20% OFF
  • Video gait analysis with footwear recommendation
  • Seminars on cadence & speed, nutrition & hydration, etc.

Brewers Mini-Marathon Training (13.1 Miles)

The PRO Half Marathon training program is geared toward the moderately fit runner who has already finished a 5k or 10k and wants more of a challenge with our weekly motivation. This is a progressive course which will focus on completing a longer distance each week.  Performance Running Outfitters will provide a training program, weekly emails with motivation and necessary information for runners.

It is recommended that you can run 4 miles before beginning this program and have an “ok” from a medical professional with a clean bill of health. The program kicks off on Saturday, July 13 and the group will meet each week for 12 weeks. Runners looking for additional group support are encouraged to attend PRO’s Thursday fun runs.

An informational meeting will be held next Wednesday, June 19 at 7pm at the PRO Brookfield location.

Mark Attanasio and Brewers Community Foundation Launch 2013 Leadership Council

Milwaukee Brewers fans, players, coaches and other supporters enthusiastically participate in season-long fundraisers that generate needed resources. Seizing the opportunity to build on the success of Brewers Community Foundation, Brewers Chairman and Principal Owner Mark Attanasio and Brewers Community Foundation have launched the 2013 Leadership Council.

“We are honored to have eight prominent businesses partnering with our organization on meaningful philanthropic efforts,” said Attanasio.  “Our 2013 Inaugural Leadership Council is a perfect example of teamwork and collaboration.  We hope that the Council generates opportunities to expand the impact we have on the community we all care deeply about.”

The 2013 Leadership Council includes:  BMO Harris Bank, Delta Dental, Delzer Printing, Kapco, MillerCoors, Northwestern Mutual, West Bend Mutual and Wisconsin Energy Foundation. Each of these organizations has a long history of meaningful engagement with the community.

The 2013 Leadership Council will join Brewers Community Foundation in the sponsorship of six key events which benefit nonprofit organizations in Greater Milwaukee.  These events include:

  • Three “Drive for Charity” events at Miller Park (April 19-21, June 21-23 and August 30-September 1)
  • 5K Famous Racing Sausages Run/Walk, July 20
  • Brewers Community Foundation Ultimate Auction, August 6-20
  • Brewers Community Foundation Week, August 15-21

“This collective effort will create new opportunities to increase the magnitude of our initiatives,” said Cecelia Gore, Executive Director of Brewers Community Foundation.  “Our Leadership Council assures a winning season for our community.”

Over the past three seasons, Brewers Community Foundation has successfully raised close to $10 million in support of quality nonprofit organizations that focus on health, education, recreation and basic needs. These efforts have resulted in the organization playing a meaningful role in the overall community effort to improve the quality of life in Milwaukee and support efforts to address critical needs.

Fisher House provides a “home away from home” for military and veterans’ families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. Currently, veterans from 23 different states of all generations travel to the Milwaukee VA Medical Center for treatment at the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) center, while 8,000 Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans receive treatment here in Milwaukee for their wounds or injuries. Veterans and their families living beyond 50 miles from the Milwaukee VA hospital are eligible to stay for free at the Fisher House if they need to overnight. The Fisher House program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and ensures that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Due to this need, the future Milwaukee home will be one of the largest built in the United States. Fisher House Wisconsin is scheduled to break ground in 2013.
