Brewers Community Achievers: Dr. Marla Lichtenberger
The Brewers Community Achievers Program recognizes residents throughout the state of Wisconsin each month during the season for displaying extraordinary efforts in their community.
All adults and school-aged children throughout the state of Wisconsin are eligible to participate in the program. Fans can nominate their Community Achiever online or pick up a nomination form at the Guest Relations Booth on the Field Level Concourse at Miller Park during the season.
This month’s honoree is Dr. Marla Lichtenberger. Dr. Lichtenberger is a veterinary specialist and owner of Milwaukee Emergency Center for Animals. Her professional contributions are extensive, having served on the executive board of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association, President of the Milwaukee Veterinary Medical Association and PR Chair for the College of Emergency and Critical Care committee. She is a frequent international speaker on emergency and critical care for small animals and exotics as well as a published researcher.
After seeing and treating numerous police canines at her hospital, Dr. Lichtenberger was touched by the strong bond between human officer and canine. She was compelled to step in and help prevent serious injury and/or death of the canines, so she started the MECA Foundation. The MECA Foundation’s mission aims to provide total wellness for Wisconsin police K-9’s offering early veterinary care, purchasing and training forpolice departments, outfitting the K-9’s with protective vests, supplying the police K-9 unit with needed equipment and more.
Every year Dr. Lichtenberger holds the MECA “Vest a K-9 Fest” to raise funds to further her mission of providing every police canine throughout Wisconsin with a life-saving vest.
Dr. Lichtenberger’s compassion for animals and unparalleled dedication to educating and protecting our pets, our police canines, and all animals makes her a deserving recipient of the Community Achievers Award.
Thank you, Marla for making a difference in the community!
