Off to the Races! Time to Start Training for the Brewers Mini!
This summer, we’ve offered you a plethora of opportunities to run in, around and through Miller Park.
From the Brewers Community Foundation’s Famous Racing Sausages 5k Run/Walk which was held earlier this month to the Brewers Mini-Marathon +10K in September, there’s something for athletes of every level.
And, speaking of the Brewers Mini-Marathon + 10K, you have until this Friday (July 31) to sign up and save on the registration fee.
And, if you’re on the fence and concerned you won’t be ready in time, don’t fear. Thanks to Performance Running Outfitters (PRO), our official training partner of the Brewers Mini-Marathon + 10K, we’ve got training programs designed to help you hit your stride.
Performance Running Outfitters is locally owned by Trae and Jessica Hoepner, who together we have over 20 years of coaching and 30 years of running expertise. Once again, PRO is offering two different training programs, one to help you train for the Brewers Mini-Marathon (13.1) miles and another to help you tackle the 10K distance.
While the Brewers Mini training program is already underway, you still have until this Saturday (August 1) to sign up for the Brewers 10K Training Program, which begin at PRO’s locations in Brookfield and Shorewood.Here’s what that entails:
Brewers 10K Training Program
The Get Fit 10k program is geared towards the moderately fit runner, former runner, or beginning runner who has already finished a 5k and wants more of a challenge with weekly motivation. This is a progressive course which will focus on completing a longer distance each week. Performance Running Outfitters will provide a training program, weekly emails with motivation and necessary information for runners.
It is recommended that you can run a 5k before beginning this program and have an “ok” from a medical professional with a clean bill of health. The program will begin on Monday, August 3 (Shorewood) or Tuesday, August 4 (Brookfield) and meet for 8 weeks. Runners looking for additional group support are encouraged to attend PRO’s Thursday fun runs.
For a $75 fee (which does not include race registration), program participants will receive:
- Tech Tee and Running Socks
- Weekly emails with advice from coach
- PRO Coupon – 20% OFF
- Video gait analysis with footwear recommendation
- Seminars on cadence & speed, nutrition & hydration, etc.
This year’s training program is also supported by Turbana. They are providing training tips relating to hydration and nutrition in weekly newsletters as well as coupons for runners to save on bananas at their local Sendik’s store.
“It’s all about getting knowledge and information to help you become a smart and healthy runner,” said Micaela, one of PRO’s friendly folks who helps run the program.
“Most people are more successful in a group setting. It’s all about camaraderie and having fun while you’re out there. Training by yourself can become mundane, especially in the summer when it’s hot out. Here, we have new topics every week. We cover everything from hydration and nutrition to proper running form to good shoes, etc., so the goal in the end is to prepare them to run the race, so they also have a good mindset of what they’re getting into.”
Michaela says the folks who participate in the program run the gamut from beginners to people who participate every year because they like the camaraderie and accountability.
