Brewers Community Achievers: Tammy Conforti

The Brewers Community Achievers Program recognizes residents throughout the state of Wisconsin each month during the season for displaying extraordinary efforts in their community.

This month’s honoree is Tammy Conforti. Tammy was recognized on the field prior to tonight’s Brewers vs. Indians game at Miller Park and also threw out a first pitch.

Tammy is the founder and President of The Kenosha Dream Playground Project. Tammy has worked as a teaching assistant for children with special needs in the Kenosha Unified School District for the past 16 years. She became inspired to start this project after seeing a handicap-accessible swing while on vacation in South Dakota. Upon her return from that vacation, she started on her quest  with a mere $300 of her own funds from her craft sales that she was saving for a trip to Hawaii.

Tammy has been advocating and educating for a fully inclusive and handicap-accessible playground in Kenosha for the past three years. She regularly speaks at meetings of the Kenosha Parks Commission and Common Council to share her vision. She formed a committee of area residents to help her spread the word on the need for an accessible inclusive play area and organized a public/private partnership with the City of Kenosha and the Kenosha Achievement Center. Tammy has presented her vision at numerous schools, churches and community service organizations in Southeastern Wisconsin. In just under three years, Tammy has raised over one million dollars and her dream will become a reality this September as the Kenosha Dream Playground will be built by volunteers in a community build.

Thank you, Tammy for your perseverance and hard work in the community!
