Bid on Three Brewers Experiences to Help MLB Raise Money for Cancer Research
In case you missed Adam McCalvy’s story on brewers.com yesterday, for the third straight year, MLB, MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM), MLB Network and all 30 clubs have organized a Winter Meetings charity auction with an amazing assortment of baseball experiences and rare items to raise money for cancer research. The money will be donated to LUNGevity, the largest national lung-cancer-focused nonprofit, in memory of the late Baltimore Orioles public-relations director Monica Barlow, who battled lung cancer until her passing in February.
The is live now at MLB.com/lungevity and runs until Thursday at 10 p.m. CT.
Here are the three Brewers experiences up for bid:
— Meet Bob Uecker and Take Home His Game-Worn Sweater: Package includes four (4) Field Infield Box tickets to a mutually-agreed game, watch batting practice on the field pre-game, and a visit to Bob Uecker in the radio booth. Uecker will present you with his very own game-worn sweater, donned by the Brewers Hall of Famer during radio broadcasts.
— Calling all dog lovers — meet Hank: The winning bidder will have the opportunity to have your photo taken on the field with Hank, the Ballpark Pup, the Brewers living mascot who captured the hearts of fans worldwide when he wandered onto the Brewers facility last February and was adopted by the team. The package also includes a game-worn, Jim Henderson home Brewers jersey plus a dog jersey worn by Hank, and four (4) Field Infield Box tickets to a mutually-agreed game.
— Private Pottery-Making Session with Scooter Gennett: Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is an artist at heart and he wants to share his talents with you. Over the years, Scooter has become something of an expert in making pottery. You and three friends will join Scooter at a local Milwaukee area pottery studio where you will spend an evening on a mutually-agreed date making your own pottery. Winner also receives four Field Infield Box tickets to a mutually-agreed game and a $200 gift card to any local Surg Restaurants, known for featuring some of the area’s finest dining experiences.
There are also plenty of unique experiences from around the league.
I encourage you to check out this auction and bid on these items to support an important cause near and dear to the hearts of the baseball family.
About LUNGevity & Monica Barlow:
Monica Pence Barlow began her career with the Orioles in 1999 as an intern in the Public Relations Department. She was later named Director of Public Relations in 2008, becoming one of the few women to hold that role in Major League Baseball. Monica passed away on Feb. 28, 2014 at the age of 36 due to complications from non-small cell lung cancer. Monica continued to work and live her life to the fullest, even after her diagnosis of Stage IV lung cancer in August 2009. She had a passion for the outdoors, animals and for farming (she grew up on a farm in Port Republic, VA). Her husband, Ben, her faith and her love of the Baltimore Orioles served as her inspiration. She was an ardent supporter of LUNGevity and proceeds from this year’s auction at the Winter Meetings will benefit this tremendous organization www.lungevity.org
