Brewers Community Achievers: Zachary Blohm
The Brewers Community Achievers Program presented by AllState recognizes residents throughout the state of Wisconsin each month during the season for displaying extraordinary efforts in their community.
All adults and school-aged children throughout the state of Wisconsin are eligible to participate in the program. Fans can nominate their Community Achiever online or pick up a nomination form at the Guest Relations Booth on the Field Level Concourse at Miller Park during the season.
The fourth honoree of 2014, Zachary Blohm, was recognized on the field prior to tonight’s Brewers vs. Reds game at Miller Park.
As an Eagle Scout, one of the requirements is to get involved with a community project, but Zachary has gone beyond of what is expected. He is planning to expand and replace the existing playground area at Jefferson Elementary School in West Allis, which is currently inadequate for serving the needs of the school’s 600+ students, many of whom come from homes of low income households. The playground will be named after Zachary’s deceased sister, Veronica, who was premature and only lived for 37 days.
Zachary has spent the last year raising money, making plans, and getting construction and equipment quotes. He’s been working diligently with the Jefferson Elementary PTA and the school principal to coordinate fundraising events and attending numerous project meetings. He’s involved many community volunteers and local businesses in the fundraising projects. To date, Zachary has surpassed the original goal of $55,000, which will allow for the purchase of additional playground equipment.
Next month, the actual construction will take place and Zachary plans to recruit community volunteers to help with the build. This is quite an undertaking for a young man who is currently a high school freshman. He is a great example of what young people are capable of.
Thank you, Zachary, for your commit to provide kids with a safe place to play.
