For all cause-conscious thrill seekers, Brewers Community Foundation and Special Olympics Wisconsin have teamed up for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rappel down the side of Miller Park.

Tomorrow, Brewers Community Foundation and Special Olympics Wisconsin will host “Over the Edge at Miller Park,” where those raising $1,000 or more will have the opportunity to rappel down the side of  our beloved ballpark.

The event will take place from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and all proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Wisconsin. Special Olympics provides services for people with intellectual disabilities, providing not only sporting competitions but leadership opportunities and self-esteem and confidence boosters. Special Olympics Wisconsin is a statewide organization which provides nearly 10,000 intellectually-disabled individuals with year-round sports training and competition in approximately 180 communities across Wisconsin.

Special Olympics Wisconsin athlete Jerry Halboth from Williams Bay, Wis. recently competed in athletics at the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games in New Jersey in June. Less than one month later, he’s embracing a new challenge—rappelling Miller Park.

Participants are asked to fundraise $1,000 to experience this thrilling event. Other popular edge packages include “Toss Your Boss” and “Cast Your Coach”, where companies, students, etc. can collect donations to send leaders over the edge, and the ever-popular, “Buddy Rappel” for the ultimate experience with a friend or family member. A one-story training wall is on-site so participants can get a feel for the harness before they take it to new heights. No prior rappelling experience is required. All participants will be treated like VIPs while supporters cheer them on during their thrilling descent.

Special Olympics Wisconsin is proud to partner with the Brewers Community Foundation, Yelp, Baird, Eaton, and FOX Sports Wisconsin. For more information, to sign up, or to donate, please visit

In addition to rappelling, there will be fun for the entire family, including music and entertainment. All are invited to attend the event as well in a special spectator viewing area, just above the TGI Friday’s entrance at the northeast corner of the stadium.

Please note that traffic delays are expected around Miller Park this weekend as a full closure of I-94 eastbound and westbound, between Highway 100 and U.S. 45, will be in effect from Friday at 11 p.m. through Monday at 5:30 a.m. Northbound and southbound traffic on I-894/U.S. 45 will remain open. Please plan accordingly.

For those scoring at home, this is the second rappelling event that we’ve been involved with this season. Earlier this year my former blog c0-author, John Steinmiller, rappelled down the side of the Hyatt in downtown Milwaukee for Shatterproof. Get a feel for the experience by reading his recap here.
