Davis & Lohse Visit with Brewers Season Seat Holders
Today was the Brewers Season Seat Holder luncheon, the second of two such events this season where Season Seat Holders with packages of 20+ games have the opportunity to attend.
The event, which takes place in the Skyy Lounge, includes a plated lunch (which was delicious!), a Q &A with Brewers players, and the opportunity to win prizes.
Today, Season Seat Holders were treated to a Q & A with Brewers outfielder Khris Davis and pitcher Kyle Lohse, emceed by Brewers TV Announcer Brian Anderson.
Questions ranged from workout routines and mentors to what they do with their free time and entrance music.
Some quotes and highlights:
Q: Khris, What do you talk about with opposing players when you get on base? Kyle, what does the catcher say to you when he visits the mound?
Khris: “I had an interesting conversation with the other Chris Davis. He said I reminded him of someone from the movie ‘Mr.3000’. Other than that, you pretty much just say, ‘What’s up?'”
Kyle: “I tell Luc not to even ask me what pitch I want to throw. I say, ‘You’re just gonna tell me something different anyway.’ That’s the kind of relationship he and I have. We’re tight.”
Q: Kyle, what do you tell your son (Kameron, age 7), who has started playing and has been in uniform around the clubhouse?
Kyle: “I just let him go have fun. Parents of the other kids on his teams ask me what they should do. I tell them to just let them have fun, don’t worry about techniques, just make them love the game. Kam loves coming to the park. It’s just one of those things where I’m fortunate enough to be able to do that and for him, he thinks coming in, high-fiving Ryan Braun is normal. One of these days he’ll be old enough to understand and really appreciate it.”
Q: You both have chosen entrance songs by Dr. Dre. Why did you choose your particular entrance music?
Kyle: “I’m from Cali and grew up listening to Snoop, Dre, Biggie, old rap stuff. My song [“Next Episode” by Dr. Dre] is one of my favorites from back in high school.”
Khris: “I picked mine [“Xxplosive” by Dr. Dre] because I liked the drums. Dr. Dre puts out good beats.”
Q: Besides baseball, what sports do you like to watch? To play?
Kyle: “I like watching football and I actually enjoy watching golf, probably because I like to play golf and because I have friends on the PGA Tour and I like to see how they are doing.”
Khris: “I like to watch college basketball and in the offseason, I’ll shoot hoops. I also like to read and play video games.”
Q: Kyle, can you tell me the difference between your breaking ball, curve and slider?
Kyle: “Well, ‘breaking ball’ is a term that the TV announcers like to use if they are not sure if it was a slider or curve,” he said, pointedly and jokingly in the direction of Brian Anderson, who laughed along with him. Kyle then proceeded to grab a baseball and show the crowd his various grips for his repertoire of pitches:
Q: What type of bat do you like to use?
Khris: “I prefer swinging ash. The wood bends with an ash bat vs. a maple bat. I like the flex the ash bat gives when I hit.”
And, even though the question was directed a Khris, Kyle jumped in: “I prefer swinging the one that gets the most hits out of all the pitchers,” he joked, as he leads the pitching staff with 6 hits this season. Kyle went on to talk about how in reality, Yovani Gallardo is the best hitter of all the pitchers, which is why he was called upon to pinch-hit vs. the Orioles earlier this season– a decision that resulted in a walk-off double.
At the conclusion of the event, drawings were held for prizes which included baseballs signed by Khris and Kyle.
Thanks to those who came out today, fun was had by all.
