ARAMIS RAMIREZ ATOP THIRD BASEMEN AS MULTIPLE BREWERS SURGE DRAMATICALLY IN LATEST ALL STAR VOTE TOTALS
In the fifth update of National League voting totals for the 2014 MLB All-Star Game, several Brewers are surging to the top at their respective positions, making up significant ground compared to prior totals. Aramis Ramirez (1,279,902) has leapt into the lead among NL third basemen in balloting. Jonathan Lucroy is now second among catchers, Carlos Gomez (2,409,860) is third in the outfield and Ryan Braun (1,974,845) is fifth among outfielders in the hunt for an All-Star Game start.
Ramirez has played in 52 games this season and is batting .297 with 10 HR and 38 RBI. Ramirez has 15 total multi-hit games, including seven, 3-hit games this year. Since being reinstated from the disabled list, Ramirez is batting .377 with 5 home runs and 17 RBI in those 18 games.
Lucroy has moved ahead of San Francisco’s Buster Posey and trails only the Cardinals’ Yadier Molina. Lucroy is among NL leaders in multi-hit games (T-1st, 28), doubles (2nd, 26), batting average (2nd, .331), hits (2nd, 91), on-base percentage (7th, .397) and slugging percentage (8th, .520). Gomez is currently on a career-high 18-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in a Major League-best 35 consecutive games. Gomez is among the National League leaders in total bases (4th, 148), slugging percentage (4th, .532), batting average (5th, .217), runs (T-5th, 50), hits (6th, 88), extra-base hits (T-6th, 34), OPS (8th, .914) and doubles (8th, 20).
Jean Segura (1,272,273 votes) ranks second at shortstop, trailing Colorado’s Troy Tulowitzki, Rickie Weeks is in fourth place at second base with 849,316 votes and Mark Reynolds (1,067,419) has moved into fourth place at first base. In addition, Khris Davis (1,052,946 votes) moved up a spot to 11th in the outfield.
