Today was a very exciting day!
The announcement of the 2013 “Brewers Mini-Marathon and 10K, Presented by Sendik’s.”
Yes, that’s right. New for the second year of the “Brewers Mini” is the addition of a 10K race (6.214 miles) for the event which will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013.
Registration will begin this Saturday at 8 a.m. CT at www.brewersmini.com and will include the option to purchase a registration spot as a gift for the holidays.
If you’ve been following the blog this year, you know that this year’s inaugural Mini-Marathon (13.1 miles) was a big success. We raised over $111,000 in proceeds to the MACC Fund and sold out over a month before the race date. More than 5,000 runners (including us!) represented 32 states.
The half marathon and 10K begins and ends at beautiful Miller Park and offers a scenic and unique course that will take participants through many Milwaukee landmarks including the Miller Valley, the Harley-Davidson Museum, Mitchell Park Conservatory (The Domes), the Miller Park warning track and others. Prizes for the top finishers will be awarded.
All participants will receive a free Brewers ticket voucher good for select games at Miller Park in April or May of 2014, a participant medal and a “tech” shirt. A post-race tailgate party outside Miller Park with live music will also take place.
Great course support will be provided with aid stations featuring water and Gatorade, misting stations, and entertainment along the way. Spectators will have plenty of free parking at Miller Park and will have the opportunity to watch racers run through Miller Park while being shown on the scoreboard.
Fundraising proceeds from the Brewers Mini-Marathon and 10K, Presented by Sendik’s will once again benefit the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc.) and childhood cancer research in Wisconsin. Participants can create their own fundraising page at www.brewersmini.com and donations can be made online. Individual fundraisers will have the chance to get their name entered in a raffle for great prizes. The top three fundraising groups will win a special prize.
The cost for the Mini-Marathon and 10K, respectively, is $65/$45 for those registering by April 30, $75/$55 for those registering between May 1 – July 31, $85/$65 for those registering between August 1 – September 20 and $100/$80 for those registering on packet pick-up day (if space is available).
That means, the earlier you register, the more you save!

The Annual John and Cait Clubhouse Sale Preview is one of our favorite blog post to write each year. The MillerCoors Holiday Lites display returns to the Miller Valley beginning this Friday, November 30 and who better to help kick off the event than our very own Bernie Brewer and the Klement’s Famous Racing Sausages? Yes, that’s right, the Brewers mascots will be on hand for Opening Night of the Lites show and they’ll even have your chance to win Brewers Holiday 4-Packs!
The Lites show, now in its eighth year, will feature over 300,000 LED lights, synchronized to a medley of traditional and modern holiday music. It is the largest show of its kind in the Midwest, and the lights, if laid out, would stretch nearly 15 miles.
The outdoor light show begins this Friday with free, family-friendly mini-tours of the MillerCoors Brewery and Lite Show starting every 20 minutes from 4:40 p.m. until 9 p.m.
The free tours start at the Visitor Center (4251 W. State Street in Milwaukee) and include:
- Opening Miller Valley Video featuring the Girl In The Moon
- 4 block outdoor walk to view the Holiday Lites Show (approx. 7 minutes)
- Miller Valley Caves
- Beer Sampling in the historic Milwaukee Stables
For this Friday only, Bernie Brewer and the Klement’s Famous Racing Sausages will be on hand with your chance to win Brewers Holiday 4-Packs!

Brewers Community Foundation Teams Up With Community Groups to Deliver 500 Thanksgiving Meals to Area Families
A Thanksgiving tradition continued this morning in Milwaukee as the Milwaukee Brewers Community Foundation partnered with 1290 WMCS-AM, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department, Feeding America and the Hunger Task Force to make sure 500 area families had everything they needed for Thanksgiving dinner.
Milwaukee Brewers television play-by-play announcer Brian Anderson, Brewers alum Larry Hisle and Executive Director of the Brewers Community Foundation Cecelia Gore joined 1290 WMCS Operations Manager TJ Jackson, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke and representatives from Feeding America and Hunger Task Force for a press conference outside the 1290 WMCS headquarters on Sherman Blvd. and Capitol Dr. in Milwaukee.
Following the press conference, the group traveled with a number of baskets to the Guest House, a Milwaukee homeless shelter for men, and the Meta House, a substance abuse treatment program dedicated to helping women. Later in the morning, the rest of the Thanksgiving food baskets were picked up by families who registered with the radio station to receive the meals.

This is the 18th year that the radio station has held this special holiday meal program and the Milwaukee Brewers and Brewers Community Foundation have teamed up with 1290 WMCS to help solicit funds, food and family recipients. Families are identified through letters and e-mails sent to the radio station. Local community service organizations can also recommend people in need.
In addition to Brewers Community Foundation and 1290 WMCS, Feeding America is donating food boxes which include fixings for the families (dressing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, macaroni and cheese, canned yams, corn, green beans, fruit, applesauce and cake mixes). The Hunger Task Force is donating turkeys and fresh produce.

Since I have worked here at Miller Park, it seems every off season, the ballpark becomes somewhat of a construction zone. The team has always done a great job of keeping Miller Park fresh and up to date with features like the Associated Bank Kids Zone or renovations to the suites and the addition of the new HD scoreboard. The Brewers today announced plans for two renovations at Miller Park, both of which will enhance the fan experience for 2013.
“Every year, we formally survey fans to get a better understanding of their changing tastes and preferences,” said Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. “National surveys of fans and media consistently rate the Miller Park fan experience among the very best in all of sports, but we don’t take that for granted. We are committed to enhancing the facility and experience every year to remain a top destination for fans.”
Projects for 2013 include the following:
Dew Deck Renovations
- The Dew Deck, a seating area above the right field bleachers that dates to Miller Park’s opening year, will be renovated during the off-season. The signature addition to the area will be a 25-foot high rock climbing wall, designed in the shape of a can of Mountain Dew. The wall will be open for approximately three hours every game day, and will be designed to accommodate up to four climbers at a time. Other improvements to the area will include new lighting, new ceilings, installation of flat panel televisions, repainting, and new signage. The Dew Deck accommodates groups of 25 to 260 people (no individual ticket purchases are available). The area features stadium seating, a private bar, and private restrooms. Tickets to this affordable party space include an all-you-can eat pregame tailgate buffet that begins when the Miller Park gates open and ends one hour after the first pitch. Home Plate Lounge Renovations
- Following the addition of a new Brewers Team Store retail location on the Club Level last year, the Home Plate Lounge will be enhanced this winter. The Home Plate Lounge is located on the concourse of the Club Level behind home plate and is open to Club Level Suiteholders and all fans who have Club Level seating. The project includes the removal of an existing concessions stand, storage area and restroom, allowing for the creation of a new fixed “Chef’s Table” counter. Featured upgrades include a new Concierge counter, new carpeting, and new furniture (modular seats, ottomans, bar stools, dining chairs, and tables). In addition, there will be new lighting throughout the space.
Design work for the projects was handled by Uihlein/Wilson. Both these projects will be ready by Opening Day, 2013.
