Brewers To Host “Mini-Marathon” in September, Will Benefit the MACC Fund

For all of you runners out there, the Brewers made an exciting announcement today!

We will be hosting an inaugural “Brewers Mini-Marathon” at Miller Park on Saturday, September 22nd.  The 13.1 mile race will start and finish at Miller Park, taking participants on a scenic route past a number of iconic Milwaukee landmarks along the way, such as Saz’s State House, the Miller Valley and Miller Brewery, the Mitchell Park Domes, Potawatomi Bingo Casino, the Harley-Davidson Museum and Palermo’s Pizza. Runners will also run through the park along the warning track.

The event will come with plenty of fun and entertainment as all participants will receive a free Brewers ticket voucher good for select 2012 or 2013 games at Miller Park, a participant medal, a “tech” shirt and a post-race tailgate party outside Miller Park with live music.

Great on-course support will be provided with 10 aid stations featuring water and Gatorade, misting stations, and entertainment along the way.  Spectators will have plenty of free parking at Miller Park and will have the opportunity to watch racers run through Miller Park while being shown on the scoreboard.

We are also announcing today that we are planning to participate in the race! We are going to have a donor page set up here and will be raising money for the MACC Fund. We are also going to be keeping our readers updated on our training for the race so you can follow along and track your training as well.

John: On a personal level, this involves two things that are special to me.  I ran Cross Country while at Marquette High School (in fact, some of this course will be much of same route that we ran on a daily basis while training), so running has always been something that interests me.  I have great memories of running Cross Country in high school, it was challenging both mentally and physically and I learned a lot from my coach Jim Kearney.  I have never done a half-marathon before, but I’m up for the challenge.

Secondly, MACC Fund is also something that has always meant a lot to me.  I grew up attending MACC Fund events with my family and I know the difference they make in the lives of children with cancer.  I’m really happy the Brewers and MACC Fund are teaming up for this event.

Cait: Unlike John, I did not run in high school (I played golf instead), but I have completed a few 5K’s and one half-marathon since then. I wouldn’t consider myself a hardcore runner, but I do like to challenge myself by setting new fitness goals, like climbing Camelback Mountain when we’re down at Spring Training, participating in a 60-mile walk for breast cancer, etc.

My only other half-marathon was in Door County in May of 2010, so it’s  about time I started training for another race and this is great motivation! It’s certainly going to be a fun one, for a great cause. I really hope you’ll join us!

Stay tuned to the blog to follow along with our training for the race!

Very excited about this race and great timing. I love that the organizers considered other local races when picking this date. Als Run in the weekend before and Lakefront Marathon a few weeks after. I’ll be training for the Lakefront Marathon and 13 miles that weekend will fit in nicely with my training plan. Kudos!

I beleave this opens oppertunites for wisconsin and if I had the season tickets I would give them to a family with child hood cancer true donations come from the heart it is hard to say if I am still able to do the run but it is somthing I deeply hope to accomplish in to september

I think this is great, and I will be looking forward to this all summer long! My daughter is a patient thru the MACC Fund oncology clinic at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. MACC Fund + Brewers and Miller Park…Count me in!!!
