Brewers Mourn Loss of Steve Uecker

Although the Brewers lost the game today, it means nothing compared to losing a family member.  When a member of the Brewers family loses a member of its own family, we all suffer the loss.  Please keep the family of Bob Uecker in your thoughts and prayers tonight.

This release was just issued by the Milwaukee Brewers…

Steve Uecker, son of Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker, passed away today at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, from complications related to an illness known as San Joaquin Valley Fever. He was 52.

“This is a very difficult time for all of my family as we mourn the loss of my son Steve,” Bob Uecker said. “We appreciate the support of everyone connected to the Brewers: the players and coaches, the front office, and the fans. I also want to thank all of the doctors and staff at Froedtert Hospital for their efforts and care throughout this process.”

In addition to his father, Steve is survived by his mother Joyce, brother Bob Jr., sisters Sue and Leann, and several nieces.

“Bob is a great friend, and on behalf of everyone at the Brewers, Debbie and I want to extend our deepest sympathies to him and his family on the passing of his son Steve,” said Brewers Chairman and Principal Owner Mark Attanasio. “His loss is our loss, and we share his sadness today.”

A private memorial service will be held.

Bob and his family will be in all of our thoughts and prayers over the upcoming days.

You’re such a kind man and don’t deserve anything like this happening. I know what you’re going through having just lost my Dad to 2 rare diseases, but I pray you and your family are able to stay strong and know Steve is still with you, maybe not in body, but spirit and always will be. Mr. Uecker, I am sorry to hear of your loss. Having lost my mother and sister here in the last 5 months I know the pain of loved ones lost. I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley and know Valley Fever well. All of of our prayers and thoughts go out to you and yours. God bless.

I was fortunate enough to know Steve Uecker as he spent much of the summer at his log cabin in the high country of the Sierra Nevada. Great person! Wonderful sense of humor. Always there to offer a helping hand. What he didn’t know about horses, cattle and the outdoors would be a very short list. Steve’s passing has shocked us all. The mountains already miss his hearty laugh.

God bless you, Steve. You are sorely missed.

Condolences to his family.

Mr. Uecker, Steve was one of my students when he was in high school. He was a fine young man. I am sorry for your loss.

Such a sad loss. To Bob and his family, we feel so badly for you loss. We know how it feels to lose a son. You feel as if your whole heart just got ripped out of your body. As I type this, I wipe away tears knowing how much this hurts. Bob, you are not alone. We, and all fans of baseball, are with you at this time. All our prayers and thoughts are with you. I am truly sorry for you loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

So sorry for the entire Uecker family. My thoughts & prayers are for you all.I can’t comprehend the many good folks being called up this year.I hope you find comfort in knowing that Steve doesn’t have to suffer anymore and with so many good memories he will always be with you.I play “Freebird” for all who have passed on and I will play for Steve.I lost my mom 8 years ago 4/10/04 it was Holy Saturday.

Bob and family, I was a friend to your son, Steve, I live in Shafter where he had lived before. He was my best male friend. He was here with my son and I in late December. Steve was a good friend to us. I have had so much fun with Steve, riding horses and going to work with him cowboying, he worked hard, loved his animals. Was a great trainer. But more than that, he was a great friend.I will always miss my Spuddy, the back country riding will never be the same. Linda Hamilton

Steve and I have been the best of friends for the past 20 years. I am a Springville girl, and during the years I knew him, we saw the best of times and the worst of times together. But I have never known a finer man or person on this earth. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He will
be missed and well thought of forever by me and many others in our community.

The day I heard of Steve’s passing, my heart was ripped from my body. I have always loved Steve from the first day i met him in 1996. He was the finest man i’ve ever met. So many memories from knowing him 1st as Jed Clampette the cow puncher to the 96MPH fast snowball he nailed me with on the backside when we were neighbors in Camp Nelson. At 1st I could not post here because i was so heartbroken and in all the media posted there was not much said about Steve but knowing that his dad was famous I guess i can relate somewhat and also put my personal feelings aside so i can share what i believe is most important and that is Steve. Anyone that knew him was truly blessed because there is no other like him. To be blessed to have had him in my life is something i will always treasure. I will be forever heartbroken and I only hope that his family knows what a special man he was. I dont care about fame or famous people because in our little town of Springville and Camp Nelson, Steve was the most famous of all and not because of his relatives it was because of his love of people, children, animals and life. He was sooo funny and a all around genuine human being. I will always carry him in my heart and every time I look up at cowboy heaven i will see Steve. I will forever be missing you Jed Clampette. Ride on for all eternity Steve till we meet again my dear sweet friend. Goodbye to the last true cowboy and gentlemen Steve Uecker.

Mr. Eucker, im so sorry to hear about your son passing away. It hurst, i still haent gotten over my grandmothers death, but a son is much worse of course, You and your family are in my prayers. God bless you. (ps: i still watch those old shows on line, “Mr. Belvedere” you were a great actor. ) take care. peace, and love. sincerely, shelly.
